Need Help - 2006 Honda Jazz 1.3A Jerk/Burn Smell

Post by waeyo » Wed May 29, 2013 1:35 am

Hello all,

First post, long time lurker.
First of all, got to explain that I am not a very "technical" person, especially in cars. Total newbie if you may. :P

Any way, I have been experiencing this jerking issue for about 8 months now. The jerk is sometimes a hard one.

But earlier at about 7-8pm, it gone out of hand.
The jerk is a minor jerk but very constant(perhaps every 0.5sec-1sec or 2sec will jerk once), decided to travel abit more and see if it can work out by itself(the hard jerks would have usually gone away by itself) but.. smell a burnt smell.

After the burn smell, I decided that it will be insane to go any further, U-turned and parked back at my carpark.

What I had done in these few months were:
Standard serving
Change gearbox oil (using geniune Honda oil)
Change tyres
Recently changed aircon compressor

So.. all these said, are there any advice that can be given out by the kind guys here? Example, what is exactly or suspected wrong with my ride, estimated cost of repair and any recommended workshops?

To be honest, I need to fix this as soon as possible as I run outside quite a lot. I am bringing my ride to a workshop later in the morning/afternoon and get it fixed. If it's gearbox, maybe getting a recon gearbox as ride left 3 years.

I will come back to this forum and see if there are any kind souls to try give some advice.

Thanks.

Waeyo

Too little information. But if u are sending to a so-call workshop, then wait for their "analysis then post lor? Good luck
Pls dont ask me for wkshop, as I know none...I only know it is safer and faster to fix cars on my own.

hi Waeyo, so what did your workshop do to your car?
Maybe you want to share with us?

Sounds like a problem with your spark plugs or EGR. Need more details for the burning smell.

If it is the spark plug, normall, CEL will be on, and why would EGR cost jerky?

Usually for GD3 and GD1 it won't have DTC when Plugs got faulty. For EGR is due to carbon built up in valve itself and causes insufficent exhaust flow to manifold.

your jerking issues are very common with the 1st gen Honda Jazz. Mainly the culprit is the CVT fluid inside your gearbox. Remember to change to Honda CVTF (and not any other makes). That should solve most of your jerking issues. Some also add this additive called Oil Extreme concentrate.

Might be a start up clutch problem if you have serious jerking when moving off
