CEL help

The CEL on my EG9 comes one after driving hard for 5 mins, but goes off when I restart my engine. I retrieve the CEL code (code 1, oxygen sensor) with the CEL and engine on. However, I was told by my mechanic that this is not accurate as you need to retrieve the CEL with ignition on but engine off. Anyone has any experience to share regarding this? The ECU has been tested to be good (tested with a few of them and same CEL apprears) Thanks for your help !

Your driving hard means you step on the accelerator and thereafter the CEL comes on?

Change your O2 sensor and the problem will be solved
