Qn on ecu

Post by Deioruomu » Thu Mar 12, 2009 11:34 pm

Hi all,

I'm very new to all these car modifications. Would need lots of help in understanding lots of stuffs.

I recently saw someone posted that he's selling an unchipped ecu, my question is what is the difference between a chipped and unchipped ecu?

Another qn is how much would the cost differ from a piggy back ecu and a stand alone one.

I'm actually quite keen to try getting one for my esi but I'm totally clueless about all these so I need some advice.

Thanks in advance for any responses. :)

==> unchipped ECU is the original ECU that comes with the car... a chipped ECU has a reconfigured chip on the ECU that controls the operation of the engine.

Another qn is how much would the cost differ from a piggy back ecu and a stand alone one.

==> price varies across different selections... if your car has stock engine with modification to the intake, ignition and exhaust, u can consider a piggyback instead... my recommendation would be GReddy E-Manage Blue.. good enough liao...

I'm actually quite keen to try getting one for my esi but I'm totally clueless about all these so I need some advice.

==> its good to ask around and know what you're heading towards... dun end up spending unnecessary money..

Hi,

Do you mean that if I were to buy a used unichip Q, it would most probably be chipped because the previous owner would've tuned his ecu for his car?

Anyway thanks for your response, was waiting for some advice.

==> Unichip is also another type of piggyback which has a tunable chipset inside it...has got nothing related to the ECU.
