Is oven baking a compulsory process ?? wat is the purpose of oven bake and wat if just spray without baking ??

To bake cars, how do they do it ? got huge oven ah ?????

Baking speed up drying process.
Oven baked paint appeared more glossy.
Oven baked paint are harder and last longer.
Oven baking might damage weak/old rubbers in the car.

i don;tknow abt car, i do steel work,
if my metal don't bake, the paint will drop off easily when contact with
other metal( example screw)
If baked, the paint still there, abit of scratch. withstand rough work. Can tell very big different when rough work.

But for car, we don't test it by using screw to scratch off the paint. LOL. So hope to wait for good answer from others.....

Oven baking allow you to use a better (harder and more glossy) finshing clear coat as this clear coat will only take 7days or more for it to be fully cure at room temp.
However there are many different type of clear coat to choose from the market, mixing ratio from 1:1 to 4:1, the smaller the ratio, the better it is and the longer it takes to cure.
Mostly paint shop will use a cheaper type + baking to cut down their process inorder to make money, hope I ans your qns, thanks.

oh ok..so oven baking is jus a process to speed up the curing process. which means its not necessary to oven bake ?????

Yes but if u left the painted area uncure for days, dust will stick onto the surface unless u have a very very clean place for painting.

For car paint normally PU (Polyurethane) is used. This come in 2 part - 1 part Resin 1 part Hardener, the mixing ratio will depend on the formulation, resin, hardener etc.

Then there is the tack free time and full drying time - normal vs elevated temperature.

Normally after tack free nothing will stick to the surface until you purposely do it.

Baking (higher temperature) is to cure the paint faster unless you can wait for the paint to dry (cure) fully naturally - usually 1 week.

This is just the basic (colour coat) stuff and we have not come to undercoat, top coat, clear coat etc.
