Pinging after engine swop

Post by Kheong » Sat Aug 07, 2010 7:58 pm

Dear bros

Friend after swopping in a bigger cc (same series) engine, would like to check what could be the possible causes for engine pinging sound during letting go of clutch. It's for a period of 2-3 secs. When flooring, no pinging under load. But pings again when reach >6k rpm.

Some suggested the timing's out. If so, will this be resolved by unichip tuning?

Else, could there be any other possible causes and remedy? Please advise. Thanks in advance.

==> engine changed to a bigger cc but ECU got change or not? body mussel grew big but brain still small as bird... sure run lean resulting detonation... get a piggyback to tune it shld resolve the problem... i assume its a B engine... so can consider either GReddy E-Manage Blue or unichip...

Thought they say asian stock cars are on rich side, so when higher cc, may even out to be just right. Cause asked some ws, they claimed that they have not encounter pinging issue with this setup, but they also agree with you that piggyback should be able to solve this issue.

==> yes, asian car tends to run rich but that doesn't mean the brain knows how to manage the new setup... anyway, bad assumption for that...

get a piggyback to get it tuned properly should be alright liao.

If future advancement parts to be installed, suggest Hondata or similar to save cost / effort. stick to your builder to tune for best results. If your builder cant tune, change builder. :P
