Software Update for knocking / ping problem

Post by jackalcleo » Thu Apr 15, 2010 11:51 pm

Hi all CU bros,

After around 2 months of change of new knock sensor by MBM, I've have been called up to do the software (ECU) update today.

I was probably the guinea pig for MBM as it should took no longer than 1 hr but it took 3 hrs. Signal problem and could not be updated and took them quite a while and was sent to somewhere to rectify the signal problem.

Before the software update, I was already on the new sensor. Knocking can be heard at 2500rpm and 4500rpm.

After ECU update, i think 90% of the knocking is not heard. Still monitoring and the ECU will keep learning the new settings

So CU bros from Vincar please contact MBM for the hardware & software upgrade. I think if do the 2 together shouldn't take more than 4 hrs as they have experience now

Thanks for the info bro.

Do you need to pay for the knock sensors and software upgrade?
My warranty is covered by MBM but I didn't buy my vehicle from Vincar but through another PI. Should I go directly to MBM or my PI to do this?

No i didn't pay a single cent for the hardware or software in terms of labour & parts.

But i think it is because MBM is Vincar workshop.

Cheers. Did you have to make a lot of noise to get them to even look at the car? I've highlighted this to MBM on all 3 servicings, and all they told me was that "its normal", and didnt want to even bother about anything else. Will make another appt with them this week to get it resolved.

Actually i didn't make a lot of noise after my hardware upgrade as i was busy. I believe when you are pointing out to them, they are NOT ready for the upgrade. When i went in for my 20k service, the SA stop me i told me that they are doing the software for me.

However they came back hrs later and informed me the computer hasn't arrive  The next day recieved call from them and was inform the com is in and during lunch i went in for the update.

So i think from now on it should be easy to get them proceed with it.

For my case

Hardware : was handle by SA Andy
Software : was handle by Ah Keong

Still trying to get used to the software upgrade as everytime they do something the car perform differently. At least i think my AVG A (fuel consumption) on my center console of the speedometer behave normal now :)

I went for my 15k servicing on Monday with MBM and checked with Ah Keong on the software and hardware upgrade. According to him, the PI that i bought the car from needs to inform MBM on the recall so that they can go ahead and do the rectification.

I reckon it boils down to who will foot the bill for the parts. Anyway, i called up my PI but they claimed they have yet to receive the pinging recall notice.
Can anyone advise if this recall notice is out? Appreciate further advice.

Yes, there's a TSB out for it.

Did you buy yr car from V**c** or other PI?

Always hate it when MBM gives customers the run around.

Thanks bro.

MBM called to say they have ordered the parts. Likely to send car in next week. Is there anything to note?

Hi All Bro,

just did my so called upgrade by MBM last month. Here my result.

after the upgrade, pinging sound almost unheard.
2nd day- starting to ping a little.
3rd day- Pinging all the way like mad.

Thinks MBM does not know how to service this car.

I did the ECU reflash over a month ago but didnt drive since I was in the US. Been driving my CU2 for the past week, so far the knocking sounds seem to be mostly gone though I thought I heard a little pinging around 5000+ rpm. From the job sheet, seems only software reflash was done, knock sensor still on order.

Take my words back, just heard it again. Sigh.
