voltage too low?

Post by Honda30 » Tue Feb 23, 2010 2:41 pm

Hi my car voltage is 11.4V (before enginee turn on) and 13V (with engine on). Is this voltage ok? If not, how to identify whether it is an alternator or battery problem?

Thank

What car?
But in any case, engine off, voltage should be about 12-12.4v, below 12 you might be having battery problems.

Engine on, usually it will fluctuate between 13.5-14.4v...

The fact that you get higher volt with engine one means alternator still working :)

voltage is just fine..

when car is turned off voltage should proly be at 11.xx ++ because ur car
isnt charging and its in stagnant mode rmbr when you turn ur acc on ur
ignition it eats up power to ur battery + other parasitic load that ur car have
ex. stereo, amps, etc etc etc..

you must worry if your car isnt charging the battery that mean you have a
spoiled ic regulator on ur alternator.. having 11.xx to 14.xx volt reading
is perfectly normal..

no neeed to worry..
