RB1 (2008) some minor problems

Post by yoman2 » Thu Jun 02, 2016 5:46 pm

I thought I would have a worry free drive when I bought a 2nd hand Honda Odyssey Rb1 back in April. Since then I've had to

1) Change power steering reservoir (managed to get blue devil power steering leak fluid to stop leak in perhaps the hose and other parts) .. problem solved
2) Air-Con blower unit.
3) " refresh and disinfect " air con (by KAH motors for like $400 bucks.. crazy!)
4) Shock absorbers changed
5) front brakes warp .. so replaced

Problems remain unsolved
1) front passenger window rattles (apply some thing on it to revitalize the rubber seals) .. less rattle but will come back occassionally.
2) annoying rattle (like window hitting metal, soft but audible when I sit at the 2nd row only) .. seem like it's coming from the c pillar or shock absorbers or brake pads. I ripped out door panels many times to try to figure it out.. still cannot solve
3) hissing sound coming from rear air con evaporator unit... too much pressure - better after releasing some pressure but sometimes still go
4) slight metallic hissing/rattling sound from the front coming on and off, whether I turn the aircon on or off.

sigh... any more in the same boat?

Very quiet here as car already 10 years old. Search the threads for more info. (not much actually).

Best hope are those who bought this ride recently. Actually Ody nothing fancy (old technology) so quite easy to figure out.

Thanks! Yes I'm sure many have moved on to other rides. I understand that it's old technology and have been searching for common problems, so I'll know what to expect. So far so good.

Hope to meet other Bros who have just started this journey like me.

There is quite an active Odyssey Facebook page (Malaysia and their rides are mostly JDM, with Japanese words on aircon/audio controls). Maybe you can check it out, if you haven't already.

Anyway not much problems with the ride just the usual - Valve cover/VTEC oil seal, GB, Power Steering pump (famous aeroplane noise).

Enjoyed your ride!

Rb1 jdm owner here

Own this car for only 4 mth.. car left 1 yrs but most likely will renew

Replace the following

1. Power steering has a mechanical sound every morning. Fix at skm with the power steering repair kit. Cost me $200
2. Fan was not working and have a foul smell coming from aircon. Check and found out relay was spoilt and cable also spoilt thus fan shutdown as not enough power to on the fan.

Lastly think gearbox going up lorry soon. Every morning before warm up will always jerk at gear 1. Check at a jb workshop was quoted around 4 to 5k ringgit to fix. Will fix it when im gonna renew this car.

Engine oil last check afrer 4mth still full so dont think i have the engine oil leak problem which many face.

Suspension too hard as previous owner change to a after market. Was quoted sgd750 to change all to original suspension.

Conclusion. Still a very nice and fun car. Enough power to ferry 7 people with 197bhp.

Hissing sound most likely from the valve. It wouldnt cause a problem to the aircon just an irritating hissing sound. You can try change the aircon valve.

Thud is when gear engage? Might be a early symptom of gear failure. Cos gear hard to engage thus de thud sound
