Poor fc

Post by Clement ong » Tue Oct 20, 2015 11:21 am

Hi lao jiaos,

I recently bought a 08 nov fd1. After three pumps i am getting roughly 8km/litre. Can i check if this is normal?

Stock setup with 18" rims. Pumped both 8000 and 5000 essso

Hey bro. 18-inch rims can be quite bad for FC. Downgrading to 17s are a good idea as they will still give you a very nice look if you get them in the right specs. You may also want to consider getting genuine, lightweight 17s (i.e. made from a lightweight material) for even better FC.

You might also want to check out these things just in case:

Wheel alignment

Improper wheel alignment (camber degree and toe angle) can negatively affect FC because you are setting the car up for less contact on the ground (camber) or setting the wheels up to go in opposing directions (toe).

ECU

The ECU may have been tuned/re-flashed for a modified engine or intake/exhaust system. If so, your AFR (air-fuel ratio) will be wrong for a stock set-up. This may cause excessive fuel injection or other similar problems.

Worn engine components or leaking intake/exhaust

Too many possibilities to quickly list, but basically a whole host of factors here can affect FC. For instance, worn spark plugs, injectors, or maybe leaking gaskets, intake/exhaust manifold etc.

Damaged brakes

If your brake seals are damaged, your brakes may not be releasing enough after clamping, and in effect you are constantly, partially braking even when driving.

---

These are just some suggestions off the top of my head. You'll have to go to a good workshop like SKM to diagnose better. I'm actually running into some FC problems myself too and will probably go check it out... Lol.
