Odyssey vs Estima

Post by mathew » Mon Jan 05, 2015 12:17 pm

Hi,
To all seasoned new odyssey owners - can give your 2 cents worth?
I am sure that many would have considered the Estima/Previa before you purchased your cars...

Have test driven both and both are great. Would like to get some more points of view to help me make up my mind

the current estima was launched in 2006!!!
i think 1 face-lift in 2009 n another 1 in 2012, but still the same engine.
i wouldnt pay so much for something that the new/replacement model will b out in the next 12-18 mths (my guess).

I was in similiar situation till yesterday.

Ody high selling price low omv.
Estima has higher omv but lower selling price.

However, the ody looks so much refreshed with gadgets and safety features.Ody interior feels plusher too.
The selling point which i felt was essential in the estima is the auto tailgate, more storage compartment
After all consideration, decides to go for ody and rejoin the honda family again.
innovate or evaporate
excel or exit

I also just went to the Nissan Elgrand and was quite impressed.

Good:
The interior is better than estima, but a little poorer than odyssey (which impresses by the consistent high quality unlike the Elgrand which feels quite premium in some areas but cheap in others)
Size is bigger than odyssey
The OMV is high
Japan made completely down to the leather seats
Last row seats on rails
Power tailgate
Good sound system and GPS (alpine)
Cheaper than estima and odyssey
Consumption not bad at 10.5 real world driving

Bad:
Feels big and unwieldy
Bumpy suspension like the odyssey
No auto wipers
Cheap looking entertainment/aircon area
No USB ports for charging
Engine less torquey than odyssey and estima - also slightly whiny engine

Now have yet another MPV to decide about...

We test drived both, after comparing with C4GP. We loved the C4GP but the potential long term super high maintenance made us reconsider Odyssey again.

Estima .... not feeling great when sitting inside, everything so many and lack of all the latest functions you can find in many other cars. I feel very old while driving Estima/Privea...

Most importantly, the selling price of additional $20K+ put us off for Estima. The recent hike in COE after the new loan structure is announced tells KM is serious about pushing for volume. They only raised price by $2K, but BM immediately raised price by $5K.

Last but not least, Estima/Privea left 1 last unit, do you dare to take?
