Anyone drove/owned RB1 and RB3 before? (RB1 vs RB3)
Hi Guys,
I am looking to get an odyssey and is looking at the RB1 absolute model (Previous version).
The thing is that i have test drove the current RB3 but never had the opportunity to test drove or even commute in RB1 before.
As like I like to check out some things. Hope someone can advise:
1) The ride quality for both is it about the same?
2) I presume engine is the same? base on the specs?
3) Transmission? same?
4) Fuel economy is the same? or RB3 better?
5) Any other major difference? other than more features like Econ Button, etc?
thanks alot.

Would like to compare both cars when they are of similar age.
My family have a 9yr KM RB1 and a 5yr KM RB3. Both are non Absolute versions.
I'll try to recall whatever I can when both cars were about 1-2 years old.
Do correct me if I'm wrong
1) The ride quality for both is it about the same?
I dun remember either car being more comfy than the other. Currently both models are rather old, the suspension won't be in good condition. Coming to 10years old, the RB1 suspension doesn't really absorb the bump well.
2) I presume engine is the same? base on the specs?
From specs, KM RB1 has 160ponies, KM RB3 has 180 and PI Absolute 200.
3) Transmission? same?
I think its the same 5-speed one. The RB1 has something like a steptronic/semi-auto gear shift while I dun have that in the RB3. Both are KM models, so if you get the PI one it might be different.
4) Fuel economy is the same? or RB3 better?
Didn't check on the RB1...
5) Any other major difference? other than more features like Econ Button, etc?
Both of my family's ODC doesn't have econ button, but the facelifted RB3 has it. Front seat warmers on the RB3.

Hi
Have driven both RB1 and RB3(current ride) and what I missed most about the RB1 is the steptronic/semi-auto gear shifters. (of course the gear knob on the RB1 looks way cooler too). Have really utilized that a lot. Not really into speeding but just sometimes need to downshift and take on some jokers who just push you the wrong way(especially for safety concerns). Honda must have thought that Hey this is a family car so don't need the extra oomph! Only the JDM Absolute RB3 still comes with the paddle shifters!
LOL the KM salesman selling me the RB3 was really something. When I lamented the loss of the shifters, he told me, "Ya, can still change gear. Can put to 1, then 2. Also, can even select 3 if needed." What a joke!
Unfortunately, its the end of the era for all. You cannot get anymore low slung MPVs like the RB series with the new 2014 Odyssey.
My wife could only be persuaded to drive an MPV if it was the RB1 then. Throw in the Mugen kit that KM was offering at that time and she was sold.
To the RB series, a great car

Fond memories of the RB1. More than 150km clicked before the change to RB3. Numerous KL trip and a memorable Penang Trip. Except for the Mugen Kit all else stock.
Ok. Let me recall. If I'm not mistaken, the RB1 Absolute models are PI i.e. not brought in by KM. The two models of RB1 that was brought in by KM were badged as EX and EXV. For the RB2, KM badged one of them as the Absolute which were only an Absolute face wise to the uproar of some of the members here(do a search). It did not have the increase power, the suspension, the brakes to name a few.carcrazy100 wrote:Hi Guys,

So, I guess if you were looking for an RB1 Absolute then it probably has to be originally from a PI not KM.
Was tempted to get the RB3 Absolute but did not want the hassle from the PIs and later on. Of course KM does not want to bring it in citing unproven gear paddle shifter issue or whatever. So got stuck with the present RB3. Its still great car though and still a looker. Just don't expect great acceleration.

Hi Bro,
Am thinking of getting a RB3 to replace my RB1 thats going to be scrapped. Do you know if parts like the coilovers, BBKS , bracings are compatible and can be transferred?
Cheers
