Engine Oil for Civic

Hi everyone!

I am driving a 2006 1.8L Civic and I was wondering if there are any recommendations for a good engine oil. I am looking for something to give my car abit more "kick" instead of the usual change I get from my workshop (QMax if I am not wrong).

I have heard that Elf Excellium SM 5w40 is a good choice at a reasonable price. Anyone knows where I can get it? Would love to hear your other recommendations as well!

PS: Can anyone explain what 5w40 means? I am abit noob haha.

what i know is 5W stands for the starting temperature for that engine oil. This means that even at 5 degree celcius, this 5W engine oil still can remain in liquid form and can lubricant the engine when start.

This front number is not really applicable in Singapore climate

the number behind is the thickness of the engine oil. As the number goes smaller, the thinner the oil is

Use thinner oil viscosity if u wan more kick coz thinner oil makes ur engine parts moves lighter less force but less protection. U feel car is lighter when accelerating. 40 is tge thickness viscosity of the oil.

You can consider Castrol Edge 30 weighted oils, either 5w30 or 10w30. They are well reviewed at BOBISTHEOILGUY forum.

Alternatively, try the RLI oils from MX trading. My friend and I used it and we both felt the oil gave good performance. IMHO.

However, if you we're very heavy right footed constantly, like 4 hrs on the north south highway, then may want to consider the 40wt oils.
