Hi guys,

Got a query here... Is it oki to crank the engine, ie start the engine with the cigarette power socket, with all ur electronic stuff connected, inserted? Is there any impact to the car battery?

I notice that when the crank is going on, there is a power cut to the cigarette socket and it comes back on when engine starts or when car key is back to accessory position.

But my concern is will there be a surge which will also damage the electronic stuff? Presumably if theres no surge protector?

I just sacrifice my car video cam for a ebay multi cigarette socket. Darn!!!

It uses the most power to crank ur engine hence ur accesories socket will dim, best is to switch off all electrical like air con, headlight ciggte socket power o/p but no issue for me on my ride for 4 years with gps and ionizer on.

I thought so too cos whenever the engine cranks, the lights and power to the cigarette socket will be temporarily disabled during the crank, thus I concluded it is oki...

Avoid swithcing on the headlight and listening to radio with the engine off. Will dry up ur batt very fast

i think if u really nd to have multiple sockets try to buy those with external switch (thou slightly bigger) and make it a habit to turn off before u off engine and turn on only after u turn on engine
