Run flat tires

Post by dunamis » Tue Jan 03, 2012 2:07 pm

Has anyone tried installing run flat tires on our Crossroads?

Am considering switching to one since our ride does not come with a spare tyre.

Not sure if run flat comes in 215/65 R16 though. Does any Xrders have any experience here?

I have not tried runflat on crossroad but on my current sedan. In general runflats are not FC friendly due to its weight. Its also not very comfortable due to the hard sidewall hence bumpy ride. Nevertheless, it might be good to have for crossroads since there is no spare tire especially those who drive up north often.

Bro Snowmanyee, you are driving a beemer now ;)? Thanks for sharing.

First and foremost, I must find out if run flats comes in the Crossroad stock tire size, otherwise i have to change rims and it may not be worth it anymore.

Watched some youtube video on run flat tires. It is quite impressive how one can still manage to drive the car even after drilling a hole through the side wall!

Am willing sacrifice a little bit of fuel economy for robust tires.

Bro. You may ask any tire shops. I believe they should have. If not, you can try some used but almost new bimmers RFT. Sizes should fit ceossroad but probably wider track as they run on 225mm. Used ones almost brand new but save you lots of cash cos RFT are not cheap. Or if you can wait, i can sell you my almost new RFT at brother cost when my new rims arrive but you must change to 17" rims. Haha. Happy shopping.

not sure if u guys would be interested in an alternative called Ride-on. those interested can click on this link: http://www.activeproduct.biz/car_tps.htm

personally, i've got it pumped into my prev 2 mit colts. strange dat i've not gotten a nail since..sounds like a tailisman...maybe there has not been any significant air leak in my regular 2weekly air top-up so i din chk for nails.

think most shops listed under the promo no longer does ride on except San Ming Huat (SMH) Tyre & Battery Services.
(784 Upper Bukit Timah Road, Tel: 6267 8090 & 50 Bukit Batok St 23 #02-20 Midview Bldg, Tel: 6760 6753).

i've been going to the one in Midview Bldg.

i can't really remember but i think i got my ride-on on my 15inch tires (all 4) for 120-140.

i travel up north quite a fair bit n i think it gives me a peace of mind n it doesn't cost a bomb while the product last the lifetime of the tires.

felt quite assured after reading the product info. Tires can still be patched up with the nrom way as long as the fluid has not been washed out.

If anyone looking for more info can visit this link: http://www.ride-on.com/brochures.html

hope this helps

Dont think gel can withstand nails! Maybe slightly more difficult but if the nail wants to shove into your tyre, it will still be able to. I have not done anything to my tyres but I have never encountered a punctured tyre in my entire life including several road trips up North as well as when I drove on rough roads overseas ... touchwood!
