Hi bros

Need your advice. Just bot a 07 CL7 2 weeks ago. My steering wobbles at speeds above 80. Also feel that the car is shaking at the same speed. I have already changed the front 2 shocks, replaced engine mounts, put in new contisport tyres on euro r rims, done wheel alignment and balancing twice. Just serviced my car 3 days ago. Mileage 107k. Did I miss something? Anyone experience the same problem? Need your advice

Looking forward to your thoughts. Also is it normal for one side of the car to be higher than the other. The gap between my left front wheel arch and the tyre is 5 fingers, compared to 4 fingers on the right side. Could this be the cause of my car vibrating at high speeds?

one of your wheel weight have fallen off or you have hit some pothole on the road pretty hard, have your tryes and rim balanced and for peace of hind, go for high speed balancing/on wheel balancing.

are u on level ground wen u use the finger method?
since u on stock coils...should not hav any diff...some poeple wll say since the gearbox is on the passager side..hence tat side will be lower wen u r out of the car...once u sit inside..it will b balance out...up to u to believe or not..
check ur camberkit..or lower arm bushing...it could be worn out..
simple tst u can diy is..jackup ur car..push the top part of ur wheel in and out..does it rock/move...if yes...some bushin is worn...

Thanks bros. Just came back from wheel balancing and alignment from LS. Car feels slightly better, but still wobbles when I travel at 80+ km/h. I also measured at a couple of different carparks and still the left side is higher than the right by a finger spacing. Will monitor for the next few weeks, I hope it's something that I can finally resolve.

Engine mount crack ? Gear box mount ?

when your car is parked on a FLAT surface/road, ie not on a slope, or leaning road, it should be level on all 4 sides of your wheels. if it is lopsided, something is already inherenty wong with your suspension setup, nevermind where your gearbox or fuel tank is located. It should never affect suspension to be one finger difference in height. (Hope you emptied your boot as well of things other than spare tyre and basic tool kit...)

This is a potentially serious situation, and you should spend some money to get it properly and thoroughly checked by verhicle workshops who know what they are doing. for that you need to go to the specialist shops like Garage R, or some other reputable workshop that can check a few things at once - like chasis alignment, suspension condition and setup, steering gear linkage, strutbar or anti-roll bar failure, brake rotor and brake systems check (for your high speed wobble) etc. Even big generic workshops like Tan Lim Motors at Defu or AC Delgro could do a decent job as they are quite fully equipped ...

You say the vehicle is bought used... you might even want to remove the suspension and check the springs!! different spring rates used? or one spring shorter than the other spring will cause ride height difference , and instability at high speed (80kmh is high speed leow...) because when demodding, depending on previous owner, you might not have gotten back a fullly stock set of suspensions for your car!

Leong Seng, I trust with wheel balancing and wheels and tyres -- they sell wheels and tyres ... however, they do not do most other things...


do not wait... things will not get better by itself (car is not human where the body can mostly heal itself over time from cough and cold... or minor muscle sprains or cuts) it not working means it not working... wun suddenly can work again normally one...

in the meantime, i strongly suggest you keep your vehicle speed limit to below 80kmh for your own safety and that of other road users till you can identify and solve your vehicle's problem.

Hope it's not the chasis... most other things can fix... if chasis... could be a true bitch to get that corrected... Delgro and Tan Lim can do it but even then only to a certain extent...

Do update us on your more detailed investigation results...

Thanks bro for your suggestions. Will send the car to the mechanic tomorrow. Ever heard of TC auto clinic at Toa Payoh? just sent my car for full service last week, was surprised this was not brought to my attention.

might need to check drive shaft also, those jionts do give up also, as for your coil, i suggest checking for leaks, and any accident history as the chassis might be bent or twisted

gear box do also have vibration and you might have to get it checked out together with the all the engine mounting esp the ones near the gearbox

sorry to hijack, but what happened if your feel that turning to the left is much more heavier on the steerting wheel than turning to the right ... if i rmbr i hit a pothole in jb quite hard.....

what might have cos it ?? and btw, dun think its alignment issues cause when going straight, it wud not veer to either side.....
