Open Pod + tuning

Hi guys, new honda owner here. :)

I just changed to GE6 Auto.

Mine is city driving and heavy traffic, so my car is at disadvantage when trying to overtake or change lane. There is a 2-3 second lag when I step on the accelator.

My friend advised that I go tuning, to improve on low end response. But if tune, I should install open pod to maximise the tuning.
But hes driving a MT, so Im not sure if it applies to my AT.

I am thinking of installing Apexi open pod and then go for tuning.

I read that low end will lag if install open pod on auto car. I 'cant afford" any more low end loss. Will open pod + tunning improve my low end?

thanks so much in advance

Yea but i share the car with my wife and she has auto license. So im limited to only AT.

If i install open pod and then tune, will it improve low end response?

no. u r better off leaving it stock standard .

tuning 'might' afterall yield u better fuel mileage thus gives u that 'quick' feeling cos of better a/f ratio. then again it 's my personal pointview cos i nvr believe in auto cars .

Airbox still the best for low end. Maybe you got install the pivot e-throttle, so you step a bit = step more, or save money by doing that by just stepping more on the pedal lor~

Auto, you can't do much when it comes to this.

Pivot 3 drive or Replica (NTD, Shadow etc) is your choice for auto. u wont go wrong. small investmest to unlock 100% throttle.

I used to drive with open pod, not good for low end, so what i did was insert a intake hose and duct it somewhere where there's air ram, i chose not to cut a hole in my bumper so i just squeezed it through my bumper's grill, after this hose is being ducted properly i inserted it onto the bottom side of my stock airbox which comes with a hole already and lastly i throw in a stainless steel drop in air-filter, effect was great for me, low end significantly increased and my FC also dropped, high end cannot pull as hard as open pod but the low end becomes much better. i was running a stock ECU with no piggyback no tuning, very enjoyable daily driving experience i would say, but if wanna play with people high end might lose out, for your case overtaking on daily drive would become an ease.

Other tips for getting better acceleration

-Downsize rims if you're using big big ones

-Don't save on servicing, use good oil

-Dun change to aftermarket big big exos, sound nice but lose backpressure and power, just go operated the stock muffler good enough, don't de-cat

all these are simple simple stuffs to gain acceleration, still got alot of small small stuffs that can help, not talking about big mods like turbo.

hopes this helps, just sharing my experience

thanks for all ur suggestions!

yazuka: thanks for sharing. im quite interested in ur set up. Not into playing with ppl on the road but more for easy lane changing esp some drivers purposely speed up when they see ppl wanna change into their lane.
rims currently on 15".

Not sure what engine oil the previous owner was using though, what oil is good for my car?

Thinking of AMSOIL...but which is reccomended? OW-20, OW30, 5W-20.. etc??

Thanks so much from a first time owner :D

Ur car still new can use w20 or w30. Can basically ignore the no. infront as not for climate like ours. For more protection, u can try w40..
But the more protection, the thicker. The no. behind bigger means thicker. Thinner oil wil give u slightly better FC and easier to rev..

alanz explained the oil nicely, thanks Alanz! Oil i like to use FKmassimo, its just a personal liking. As for rims if you already running 15 than i dun think there's a need to downsize further, as for the few basic mods i've talked about are pretty much universal mods bah. cant try them out and see the results, alot of workshops do duct pipings for stock airbox, i did mine for like $20? =D would see some results for sure, daily driving made easier! last but not least you save abit more fuel because your lowend made more torque therefore easing you on the throttle. =D
