Shock absorber

Post by arktanian » Tue Jul 20, 2010 10:05 pm

Dear friends, recently i hear hollow sound coming from the back, like suspension problem. so i went for a check and the mechanic told me the rear shock absorber both leaking. What does this mean? Can i repair ? Or need to change to a new set? How much would it be? I just want it to be comfy, quiet, dun make so much noise thats all.

leaking means time to change. shocks cannot be repaired unless you bought HIGH END aftermarket (I oso dunno actually have or not haha)

how much would it cost depends on how much you wanna spend. May grades of shocks that can fit the ES.

your best bet to go for OEM (original equipment manufacturer) in this case KYB shock. pricing is whatever is quoted la... I have no idea what they are today.

You can go to any Honda Stockist to ask...or even HONDA Kah Motor... but their quote will be the highest... any higher mean stoopid clown try to carrot chop you...

stockist like Thian Seng and Tanly are reasonably priced...

minus labour to mount on the shocks ($80) and balancing and re-alignment of your vehicle. Those will cost les than $100 bux for a computerised alignment job.

Workshops WILL put a markup on shocks they stock. plus labour plus alighment, etc. It's standard practice. Dun count until they got nothing to earn... den it's not worthwhile to do your business...

We dissect the prices down to components to explain how the 'quote' is assembled. It's not for disassembling - "I dun want this part, and that bit" and so "can cheeper or not" -- can... at your own risk.

shud be enough for you to digest and use...

such questions require detailed description and showing you on the hoist. Come for meetup and we will explain to you in detail and show you what is what. describing it... you won't get it... if you can get it, just google it. it's universal information what is suspension and what is shock absorber.

wikipedia might have good info plus illustration too...

I believe there's a book called 'Basic Car Maintenance for Idiots' - I'm not calling you an idiot, but that's the title of the book (and I have a few of them on other subjects - maybe I the idiot) that you can purchase and read up on such terms.

but fastest, cheepest and least brain used - come for meetup.

Labour included? Mounting and protection kits included? If only on the telescopic shocks then its far too expansive.

if you want to get a rough gauge on the break down for shocks, components and labour cost, you can call Yuan Thong or Chin Hon. They are the authorized this distributor for KYB in Singapore. Part number can be obtain from
