Hi bros i no GURU.....just a day to day driver of an Ek4...MOSTLY travel quite fast...

Anyway....from my past experience with my old rides ...coralla,mazda Gt,starlet etc etc....the rule of thumb was to change the timing belt when mileagae about 90k to 100K or at least tats wat i was told...

If u look at my other thread on my upgrading of cams...recently itchy backside browsing thru buy sell forums bot a set of type R cams....my current mileage about 85k....


So just like all good civic bro very kan chiong to change my cams....this turn out to be a blessing cos when my mech open up my engine he found my timing belt starting to have hair line tear...very obvious...SO lucky i decide to change cams otherwise i would have drive till 90 or maybe 100k to change my timing belt and i am pretty sure before that belt would have SNAPPEd and that would be the end of my B16... ...

So i guess civics on b16s because of our civic driving culture....dont tell me u guys never drive hard MOST of the time better take care good time to change tming belt between 70 to 80k....cheers and drive safe.....

My timing belt snap when I was travelling at about 70km/h sometime early last year... Luckily engine was ok....

wat is the cost $$$ for a timing belt ???

yeah anyone know of the cost for timing belt + labour? any chance below $100?

usually a timing belt change is done together with the fan belt & water pump...

for my previous vehicle..it was around $600...

not too sure how much it will be for a honda....but i dont think it will cost less than $100....

i have heard of damages in the thousands of dollars when timing belts snap..so it is not a risk im willing to take....

i personally find it penny wise but pound foolish to save on something as critical as timing belt...

Stock timing belt for B16 is not ex.... Confirm under $100....

Not including labour.... Like you mentioned, most will change water pump and some other stuffs together...

i paid $500 plus including the cost of timing belt/water pump as well as labour charges to change my cams to type R/adjustable cam gear/springs and retainers..car feels GREAT...

tis is interesting mazda b series engine...no worries bout belt snap...

The Mazda B-series is a "non-interference" design, meaning that breakage of its timing belt does not result in damage to valves or pistons, because the opening of the valves, the depth of the combustion chamber and (in some variants) the shaping of the piston crown allow sufficient clearance for the open valves in any possible piston position.....found tis off the net...

last i checked, 300+ with water pump change. thats for twincam b engine..

In short, the valve are very far from the piston TDC...

My exp when timing belt broke ard 60k... sad story... spent 2k in repairs... changes all valves...
But now eng dam strong

i bought my timing belt/water pump and the respective oil seals (civic esi)for around $90 from honda stokist in sg. labour in malaysia ard 200RM. the car alot of difference in performance... my engine does'nt heat up when iam doing 160++ in the NS highway like beafore..

End 2009, my sister rent a Mazda3 to Malacca. Belt break in Malacca due to aircon failure (cease). Got it change by agent quite fast and professional. Thereafter, continue to drive back Singapore, no problem. Below SGD200
