K&N fitment problem

Has anyone else had this problem: the K&N drop-in has extra material in the form of 2 holes which seem to be obstructing the closure of the airbox.

I have to pull the metal latches very hard in order to snap them shut. Even then, there are 2 latches which I simply cannot snap close.

Problem solved. It seems I bought the wrong filter, one meant for the ES Civic. Size is exactly the same except that it has extra material. I cut the extra bits out and it fits perfectly.
