Advice on cleaning/maintenance

Post by darsky » Sat Oct 10, 2009 5:19 am

I just get my first car & would like to know more abt washing & maintenance it. After reading thru the forum, would like to ask a few question

1) to wash car weekly, use car wash shampoo, rite? only for the body? how abt the windscreen & mirror?
2) When talk abt waxing & sealant, what the frequency of applying them? do we do it everytime we wash the car? what the steps? & using cloth or sponge?
3) what are buffing?

Is my step below correct?

1) Use Durogloss #901 shampoo to wash the body. (not sure abt the windscreen & mirror)

2) Wipe dry the car, then apply Megauir Quick wax. (do we need to wipe if off imediately? or let it dry then wipe off?)

3) Use Megauir UQD (do we need to wipe if off imediately? or let it dry then wipe off?)

1. shampoo can be used on all exterior.
2. for wax or sealant, there is no definite answer how frequent u need to apply.. as a guide, usually is around 2-3 mths..

As for your steps, if you use UQW u can skip UQD or vice versa.. both are QD.. For me, i will start from step 1 after 2-3 mths.. after weekly car wash, either use UQW or #135.. with regular maintenance, u can achieve shine n wet look.. for your ref:

Washing bay bro. You may want to consider claying step also.. It makes a big difference and will help in better bonding of your wax.

Clay is done after the washing step. You have to remove all the loose dirt first then swipe your hand across the surface and if it feels gritty den you need to clay those out. You can also use paint cleaner such as cleaner wax/polish after the claying to remove further dirt. It will be even better for the wax to adhere to your paintwork. You should see a different if your polish is done thorough and your wax is applied properly.

May be your car still new lor...less than 1 week isit?

I feel cleaning, wax, detailing complete in 1.5 hours a bit too fast. I normally need at less 2 to 3 hours sometimes 4 hours.

YupZ, agree. Just wash, a fast claying and wax sometimes need 2-3 hours. If want to do more detailed work need much longer time..
