Air Con problem

I recently brought my car to a workshop at Sin Ming to check my air con as I found out that there was smoke coming out from the air con vents whenever I drive above 70km/h. The mechanic told me that the high pressure hose and compressor was leaking. When I asked him how much it would cost me to fix it, he quoted me a price of $800. Any bros out there can advise me on whether it would really cost this much to service my air con? I feel that I'm being robbed if I were to service my air con there.

The shop is located at Blk 7 Sin Ming Rd. They did show me that there was a tear in the hose. The mechanic also dismantled my glove box compartment to check the air con coil and said that that had to be fixed as well. Then after further checking, he told me that my compressor was leaking too. Then when I asked him how much to fix everything up, he quoted me $800. So do you think I should just service the entire air con system?

sollie for late reply. $800 deserve second opinion. u can goto level 1 at sin ming autocate precision airconditioning (inside elite motor) and ask also.

which i think is quite reliable on workmanship.

if ur compressor is gone, and cannot b repaired. then considered getting a recon model. but without seeing the cooling coil, i doubt it is spoilt, so to speak. at least u seen the hose and oil stain indicating the leak.

compressor problem may also b repairable. sometime it is the soleniod not working. which is a chirp repair job. the chirpest solution is replace the filter and expansion valve and damage hose and see if the gas will hold. then if compressor cut in is problem, have that checked.

U can try www.riverviewauto.com.sg for their diagnostics & repairs ....definitely not cut-throat and will replace only spoilt stuffs that needed to be replaced.

But compressors would be a bit ex. and brand new will set you back by at least $300-400.

Gererally, most of them are con artist. Did you know that when you open the vent to outside air to enter while your aircon is at its coolest, the same "smoke" will also come out. It is just condensation mixture of cold and humid air. Try it out and see !
