Hi Accordians

I am totally new to this forums so forgive me for not understanding yr jargons used here....like what is CP/CU? I am driving a 1-yr old Honda Gen 8 Accord....from Kah Motor ( i think u all refer to KM )....

Anyway I just sent my car to Honda Service Centre today and was told that after checking my car battery, they noted it is quite low in voltage and needed a replacement. The SA said the new battery would cost me S$96 with a 6-mth warranty....

I am just surprised that my 1-yr Honda Accord battery needed replacement!!!!! I have been driving for the last 18 years and first time heard of the car battery in new car needed changing after 1 yr?????

Does anyone out there has the same problem? I dont have ICE installed and have a GPS installed using the in-car battery...AFAIK, I drive to KL about once in every quarter and was told that the long journey is good for the car battery as the alternator would be able to charge the car battery fully since the journey is about 4 hours....I usually dont stop for breaks!

Another car owner told me that his Honda Fit has the same problem. The mechanic told him that the default car battery is of a inferior quality. He changed his car battery at 20k!!!! The new battery is much better after he replaced it.....

BTW is there a warranty for the default battery?

Also had the same problem. My battery died on me at 33k at around 1yr.

In all my years of driving, most batteries would last at least 1 1/2 yrs, so I was really surprised. I understand most batteries have a 13 month warranty but the SA said that warranty only for 20k and below.

Bro Jason had his replaced for free also around 1 yr old but his mileage is very low. Bro Jason, any comments?

Anyway, changed mine elsewhere, no more trust in their battery. Don't mind paying a bit more for better battery with higher amperage.

I think KM is trying to cheat its customers: I was told that I needed a wheel alignment after 33k and 1 yr ownership!!!! It costed me $70 to do that....
this is ridiculous!!!!!!

What is worse is that the SA proceeded to do the wheel alignment without my consent and when I questioned him, he said that during the initial briefing, if he found out that the alignment is out, he will proceed to get it fixed....I could not recalled that statement but thot he would call me at least to inform me before proceeding with the wheel alignment!!!!!

Did anyone get the wheel alignment during their 30k servicing?

Just to share my view.

Most agent warranty battery within 12 or 13 months. But most of us dont really benefit from it cos like bro AL said, battery life span last about 18 months. So, the agent usually gain the advantage without having to change our batteries.

Then again, it depends if you drive more at night or in the day.

From my understanding, frequent night driving cause the battery to fail faster, naturally.

So, regardless the mileage u clock....do look at your driving habits.

bro Johan is lucky to have request KM to change his battery before it reaches 1 yr old!! Lucky him...

As for alignment charges, KM SA tends to encourage you to change more items when u go servicing....a very typical Chinese style of business practise...maybe becos they are still managed in an old fashion manner...unlike Borneo Motors.

If you need to put up your unhappy events with KM, pls contact bro brian....he has good connection with KM...

Btw, for our CPs, many workshops out there still yet to be equipped with the alignment software....do take note....car too few on the road....

Life span of battery depends on how new ur battery is and not how long u've used it. If the car is manufactured in Jan (battery placed in), ur car collection is in July the battery is already "used" for 6 months and plus ur 1 yr usage would be 1.5 yrs and not 1 yr.
accord-23 perhaps you might want to find out from the workshop how they find out alignment is out? and do you mean by wheel rotation or wheel alignment?

Battery lifespan and battery runtime are two different things. Battery runtime is the amount of charge a battery is able to hold, which equates to how long it will run. Battery lifespan refers to the amount of cycles a battery has before it is unable to hold a useable charge.

A charge cycle is when your battery is fully charged, then discharges completely, and is then fully charged again. Your battery has a certain number of charge cycles before it is time for a new one. This timeframe varies depending on care and usage.

If a car is not running but store in a warehouse, there is no charge cycle present as the engine is not running. But there is a possibility of battery going flat after too long.

So, if yr usage is heavier or frequent, eg. drawing more current from yr battery especially at night when u need to have the lights on, the charge cycles of yr battery will be faster, thereby shorthen the "time" of yr battery life span.

Hmmm... probably it's best to disable all the auto functions such as auto light and rain sensors.

i thought i am the only one having the problem till i saw this thread. nowadays my cranking for car need to hold longer before can start. think is the batt problem also...
last car civic ES5, lasted for 3 years plus, but have not changed bett at all...

so anyone changed batt outside? or can we get free from KM?

hi bro vti.

long time no see u here....

About yr cranking longer, pls check that you have allow time for the check lights to disappear before you crank. You should not need to crank long if the above is followed. If it happen again, then its really time to check yr battery at any battery shop to see its charging Voltage and etc.

FRow wat i understand our new car battery only warranty for the 1st year,so if u find that yr car is hard to start after some mths,go to kah motor and have it chg free of charge but only within the 1st year,Dun have to look for anyone just tell them to chg it to a new one or ask then to bear all other charges if your new cars break in malaysia,that wat i told them,hope it help all oue fellow cp owner,

i batt jus died on me last week. have to call kah motor people down. my milleage is about 27k and car is about 10months old only. no more warranty as milleage is above 20k

So those bros that have their batteries changed is at where? do outside? any recommend? any brand? I think my batt is dying soon...


just to ask, any one did 40k servicing at KAH? i asked and told the price is 500 plus...

It should be a batch issue. Usually battery last about 2 years unless you car has many other system installed.

not surprising....look at the battery they provided, rather small one, if want to fix amp, confirm need to change bigger battery
