hi guys, i heard that coolant/engine overheating is a very common problem for EG civics yea? since i bought my car 1 month ago , i notice that my car coolant have to top up everyday.. like 200-500ml daily.. yesterday as i was driving back from JB (topup coolant with water before trip) my coolant temp rise to 3/4 - nearly H.. when i reach sg i top my coolant with almost 1liter + of water. today morning go amk autopoint let mech check , he check the pressure of my coolant and check the hoses all and there is no visible leak..then he say most prob is head gasket gone thats causing the overheating.. pls advice , thx :)

hey guys, i just check with HV racing , they quote me 600RM ($250+ SGD) for skimming /changing head gasket and labour.. i tink its rather cheap compare to SG price for the work done, though i dono how much SG workshop charge for the work done as mention above. and i also check they change the piston rings for 250RM ($105 SGD).. :)

I like to share my xperience too

I had similar problem, but it came within a very short period. Just did a servicing last Monday and on Thurs, I faced overheating problem. Top up my radiator to full (including reserviour) and it only lasted me no more than 20km before engine overheated again (radiator dried). Initially, my mechanic said it could be water pump that is leaking but than there were other issues I believe was causing it.

Upon enquiring with some friends, I was told it could be my head gasket. Head gasket overhaul is very extensive work and will need car to be left with workshop for days.

I drove my car (with a pail of water) into JB (mechanic) on Monday and gotten my car overhauled (full overhaul incldg piston rings excp piston). A lot of things were changed. The list is not complete but here's what I can recall:
- All gaskets including oil seals, etc
- All belts
- Replace some hose behind e engine
- Change Mobil Semi-syn oil, etc
- Labour
Total damage, about RM1,300. Car was taken back yesterday, after 3 days.

Am happy with the overall cost. It works out to about S$550. I believe if I were to do all those abv (and some other minor stuff), it would cost me about S$1k if done locally. What's other bros' cost like?
