Hahahaha..... Not cheap. If you are talking about the most basic setup, never go for those HTIB. Get separate components. Get reviews and go to sound gallery to hear for yourself. This is also what I have been busy about for the past months. Stuff for new house.... Kekeke...

Receiver I got is from Onkyo. Model is TX-875. Above average receiver capable to decode almost all upcoming source like DTS HD and True HD with 4 HDMI input to 1 HDMI output. There is another higher end model then this but I choose this because for the THX option as this model is offering the ultra 2 certification but that other model is THX select 2 option only. The other one is consider higher cause it offer home network option whereas this one don't have. This set me back about 2.2K after bargaining.

Speakers got from JBL when they are clearing their stocks few months back. Original price for the 5.1 setup was near to 4k for this speaker system but got it at only $1499. Paid another 200 for the bookshelf speaker to make it 7.1 setup so speaker package come to 1699.

Initially tot of getting the BOSE system but after considering the future option whereby Bluray will be ruling and those lostless sound option like True HD and DTS HD which BOSE still does not support, I forgo the idea. But honestly speaking, go to Atlas showroom and have a feel. Those stupid small cube speakers might look small and incapable but don't let the looks fool you. These speakers really give you the most crisp and clear sound you can hear and won't lose out to those with 5 star rating by What HI-FI magazine. Just that lose out on future option for Bluray set up.

Then still go good cable etc etc. A good basic setup can set you back around 4 or 5 k hole in your wallet. But end of the day, before you go to these showroom, you must have a budget work out and a determine mind of what you want. Cause your heart and mind will sway very easily in the showroom as sales tends to show and poison you with more expensive stuff that you need.

Monster cable only plays a part when you got a room the size of the theatre. Even those staying in bungalow also wont need monster cable. Waste of money.

it does makes some diff... juz that its not necessary

when i was playing hi fi 10 yrs back, there is a brand B&W speakers... those were damn gd. i see if i can still find some pics online
