Convoy Details

Post by DIRT22 » Wed Dec 19, 2007 2:38 pm

Dear All,

There will be a convoy to Johor Circuit, Pasir Gudang meeting at the Petronas station after the 1st toll station via the 2nd Link entry into Malaysia.

Newbies to the area or for those who do not know the way, you are strongly advised to join this convoy! The average driving speed will not be very fast so as to accomodate to those of you who are totally unfamiliar with the roads.

This convoy will be meeting at the Petronas station from 11:30am onwards on the 23rd December 2007 Sunday. The first batch of cars should be flagged off by 11:45am, and all cars should be out from the Petronas stop by 11:55am so if you are joining this convoy PLEASE DO NOT BE LATE!

Latecomers will have to find their own way to Johor Circuit!

The directions to Johor Circuit is as follows:
Via 2nd Link entry, head northwards pass the various toll stations till you reach the Pasir Gudang turn-off on your left.

Taking this left turn-off, head straight once past the toll-station and into the main Pasir Gudang highway.

This is a straight only road, just keep heading straight till you reach the Kong Kong exit.

In order not to miss the exit we do not advise that you speed along this 2-lane highway, just keep at a comfortable enough speed for you to notice all the road markings on the signboards!

The Kong Kong exit is an upslope, take this upslope and you will reach a Y-junction; keeping on your left take the filter lane onto the main road (not stopping at the traffic lights).

You are very near Johor Circuit already, look out for signboards directing you to the circuit, you will need to make a left filter lane turn at a set of traffic lights; taking this road will lead you up to the pit-area entrance of Johor Circuit.

At this juncture please do not speed as you might miss the entrance into Johor Circuit Pit Area on your left!

Do's and Don'ts

Post by DIRT22 » Wed Dec 19, 2007 2:39 pm

DO'S

1. Get your car inspected by your regular mechanic before going down to track! Things to look out for (but not limited to) include tire condition and thread left, brake pad condition, suspension condition, all fluids (engine oil, gear/ATF oil, brake fluid, radiator coolant), seatbelt condition, engine health and so on. If your car engine is "dying" or has faulty brakes/suspension/tires you should not take the risk! Be reminded that the towing fee from Johor Circuit back to Singapore is RM500.00 payable upfront, cash only! We hope no one will have to make use of this service!

2. Bring your Payment Receipt with you on Sunday 23rd December 2007! It will make the Registration process alot easier on our Admin staff and saves everyone time. To be fair, those that do not have their Payment Receipts with them will be registered LAST.

3. Bring a proper crash-helmet (both full and half-face types are okay). By "proper" crash-helmet we mean helmets that are worn by either motorsports car drivers or motorcycle riders. Army or construction helmets (and anything like these) are NOT allowed. Helmets MUST be worn at all times while on the track. Passengers will also be required to wear helmets if they are accompanying you onto the track proper; no helmet, no ride. In addition you are only allowed ONE passenger (front seat) with one exception; during the 5-lap CCT you will NOT be allowed to carry ANY passengers.

4. Wear proper footwear. While you are free to wear what you wish while driving to and from the circuit, while ON the track itself you will be expected to wear proper covered shoes. Slippers and sandals and any shoe deemed flimsy and/or uncovered will NOT be allowed; this is an important safety issue, if you do not have appropriate footwear we are sorry but you will not be allowed to proceed onto the track!

5. Should try to wear appropriate clothing. While this is a casual event, we would like to remind all participants to please respect the track and the environment (eg. try not to turn up in flimsy tank-tops and your pyjama shorts).

6. Remember to bring your valid passports, a filled-up immigration form (white card), your cash-card for the Singapore toll 2-ways, and enough RM (ringgit) for the return trip including your own petrol as well as the toll charges in Malaysia. As a rule of thumb, SGD10.00 is more than enough for the Singapore toll (return) and RM50.00 should be enough for the Malaysian toll (return).

7. Top up to 3/4 tank before you enter the Singapore customs going into Malaysia. We do not want unnecessary delays due to some being held up at customs for not having enough petrol in their tanks!

8. Keep to the timing as stated out in the Itinery above! Johor Circuit operates on a strict schedule, so we don't want to waste both your time and ours with unnecessary delays. All of us paid good money for the track session so let each minute count!

9. Keep an eye out for each other's personal belongings. There will be space inside the pits to store your barang barang.

DON'TS

1. Treat this Track Day as a competitive event aka RACE. This Track Day is for like minded individuals to have fun on track, learning the lines and/or learning their own cars, and perhaps among friends having some HEALTHY competition. We don't want to see drivers purposely blocking the line or cutting other driver's off or anything dangerous like that. If you want to race, please join SMSA and sign up for their competitive events.

2. Bring your ego out. Since we are all not professional race drivers, let us agree to leave our egos at home! Having an out of control ego on the track is a BIG ACCIDENT just waiting to happen. Go safe, play safe, return home safe!

3. Ignore track signals or marshalls. We will do a proper safely briefing before the start of the track session so that each of you knows the proper flag signals to watch out for, and what not to do in any unfortunate event of a spin-out or accident. When on track you have to be aware of your surroundings, so make sure you bring your senses out! That's another reason why army helmets are not allowed. Usually Reservists (people like me) wear army helmet automatically become dumber.

4. Park your car inside the pits or at the immediate back of the pit area if you are not taking part in this event! If you are a spectator or just accompanying your friend up, please park your car in the middle of the staging area behing the pit area, or near the large toilet to the back of the staging area. The pits and pit area is strictly for participating vehicles only! We also seek the co-operation of all participants to ensure that your friends adhere to this point!

Dear all,

If there are no last minute changes, this will be the last update before Sunday!

I will be meeting the final batch of participants signing-up this evening at Choon's, please be advised that any "last-minute" additions for this event you will have to contact me via SMS directly as I will not be doing any sign-ups tomorrow! Gotta spend the time to prep my own car!

Please be advised that all participating drivers and co-drivers will be issued with a Driver's Tag that must be worn at all times during the event. This tag on a lanyard will be used in conjunction with the Johor Circuit wristband to identify participants. If your co-driver does not sign-up with me he or she will NOT be issued with both the Driver's Tag and the wristband, and thus will NOT be allowed onto the track.

Please note that the wristbands are NOT transfereable. Broken wristband means no entry into circuit! From experience we know that this wristband is very durable so it shouldn't come off even with abit of rough handling.

Your cars will also be marked (using water-soluble markers) on both rear door glass (or rear triangle for hatchbacks) and front windscreen (TBC/optional). Please do not remove the markings before the end of the track day; cars with no recognised markings according to our records will NOT be allowed on track.

Your Driver and Co-Driver Tags, your Johor-Circuit wristbands, and your complimentary Yokohama/Advan T-shirt will be issued to you on the actual day of registration at Johor Circuit itself. Please be advised that we have limited sizes (M, L, XL and XXL) so if you are concerned please SMS me in advance to let me know your size. I will TRY my best to ensure you get a size that is suitable for you!

I will do a mass SMS to advise all of you to login and read this thread by tonight! If anyone has any queries please do not post here, SMS me directly!

We look forward to an enjoyable track day and we will see everyone at Petronas on Sunday!

Cheers,

Joe Koh

Thank You!

Post by DIRT22 » Mon Dec 24, 2007 4:43 pm

Dear All,

Thank you for your kind participation in the 23rd Private Track Day. We hope that all involved had a good time blasting on the track in their own vehicles, and off the track talking to friends and like-minded enthusiasts.

Our 30-ish cars was a comfortable figure to manage on track, we were pretty sure that each had quite a number of clean laps to do some proper practising. Everyone was co-operative and we managed to pull off a structured event with timings mostly adhered to!

Thank you also to all who took part in the 5-lap CCT, it is good to see more newbies lining up on the grid to involve themselves in such friendly competition. It was also good to see that egos were kept at bay and everyone drove hard but knew when to back off and let the overtaking car past safely...

We hope the bug has bitten and that more newbies will be inspired to take themselves and their machines further in future!

Stay tuned to more of such Private Track Day events coming up, we will aim to organise the next one better so any suggestions or feedback (good or bad we all take!!) please do post freely here!

We had some brothers who suffered some tire/rim damage due to sand pit excursions, it was unfortunate but thankfully there was no more damage other than that and they were able to drive home to Singapore safely.

We would also like to dedicate a few seconds of online silence as a mark of respect for the fellow Singaporean biker who died as a result of injuries sustained during the track accident earlier in the day.

May his motorsports spirit continue to live on in the hearts of fellow enthusiasts, and not dampen the enthusiasm of beginners!

We will leave this thread open for participants to post feedback or comments of any kind! Thank you once again for your participation!

Thank You! Part 2

Post by DIRT22 » Mon Dec 24, 2007 4:54 pm

The organisers of the 23rd Private Track Day would like to thank our primary supporters:

YOKOHAMA TIRES

and

YHI CORPORATION PTE LTD

We would also like to thank Mr. Brian Whillock for making a guest appearance and for taking the time to show track newbies the basics of track driving as well as taking some priviledged participants for a training ride onboard his spanking new Advan liveried Mitsubishi EvolutionX-GSR.

The organisers would also like to thank Mr. Eddie Ng of Choon's Motorworks as well as Mr. Kenneth Lin for ferrying newbies around the track and showing them the lines and other track techniques.

The organisers would also like to thank their WAGs (Wives And Girlfriends) as well as Choon's trackie-boys for taking on the role of Officials and superbly handling the otherwise headache-inducing messy registration and sign-up process at the track, as well as forming up and flagging off the 5-lap CCT.

thanks kelvin,
i think sepang is abit tought, the cost is way to high to be split amongst the small group of us. sepang would be lovely but i think for now we should still join TCC and sgtrackies etc. Maybe what we can do in the future is arrange to go as a group n join the TCC or SG trackies TD. If that ends up successful then we could prob try arranging our own.. BTW which was ur car on track?
