DIY Preparation

a good DIY is all about preparation.. i know some will back out (as usual) but you're serious about it there's some prep to be done.. ask your questions here (DON'T PM ME, i say again DO NOT PM ME).. alex/joe/myself will try to help you out if we can.. if you have suggestions please voice them out.. we're still learning too

Heatshield/CAI
for those who wana do their heatshield, you'll need to buy the rubber insulation/sheet aluminum/rubber adhesive etc beforehand.. should not cost you >$50.. alex you got any leftover stock that they can buy from you? i have some 4" piping but that's too large for anything 'cept the mugen/spoon/DC2 airboxes

ATF Cooler
eaton-weatherhead hoses and stainless fasteners.. if you don't wana buy them, then go workshop and fix don't bother with DIY coz they're gona use cheapo hoses.. the whole point of DIY is to do a superior job compared to the workshops.. if the workshop can do a better job, then i'd rather pay them to do it

Caliper Spraying
VHT Paints, Sandpaper, Gloves, 3M sanding attachment (i have 1 left, but don't be a cheapskate

) hairdryer.. i'll provide the power drill.. but if you have one i can help you out too, saves some time if 2 ppl are working on it.. IMHO sanding is only necessary for the Prelude/EK9/DC2 calipers.. the stock EK4 ones are too small to make much of a difference

i've invested alot of time and effort into this and i don't make a single cent out of it.. purpose is to hopefully get everyone to be more hands-on about their rides, to be more aware of what a car is all about and to appreciate their own cars

if we can get more people involved, SHC will rise above all of the other car clubs

alas, in spite of all my enthusiasm, i would be working during the day shift on the 19th.
So I guess I'll try to come down n meet u guys to learn some stuff and make some new friends.

Hi Pete,

Just search thru your DIY of the oil catch tank again and i am interested to DIY one myself similar to your setup too.

Materials to buy :
a) Container - Get those cheap cheap Alu water bottle....
b) Hoses - 5/16" dia - 2m ?
c) Hose clips - 5 or 6 pcs
d) Telfon tape - 1 small roll
e) Metal wool - put in container
f) T or Y joints needed for the PCV hose?
g) Brass hose fittings. 1 L shape + 2 norm. Need any on the PCV outlet,
Drainage outlet need one?

My problem is -
Need to get the hose fittings fixed in the container ready before any installation to be carried out under your guidance.
Fabrication of mounting brkts also a headache.

Anyway to assist?

Most oil catch tank in the market should only have 2 outlets?

Pete's version have 3 outlets ( Breather + PCV ) and we can determine the size of the container! Outside those with 3 outlets are quite big i think.
EK bay quite cramped leh.

DIY fun = priceless.

Probably, you can use a Coca-Cola can to make it into a Oil Catch tank. *jokingly*

haha well.. i must say this.. in hindsight it would've been easier to just get a cusco one or something.. you can turn that into a 3 port cannister by using a Y- or T-joint no worries..

but if you're really keen to DIY, i'll help you out.. just get all the parts, and pass me the can together with the brass fittings.. i'll drill the holes for you.. the bracket you'll need to design one to fit where you wana mount it.. so do some planning first.. you can copy my bracket design if you want, just make sure you have enough space at the firewall area near the brake master cylinder..

LED from autobacs, abt $4.90.

Wires, abt $1.00

Easy to connect, difficulty level depends on where you want to locate the LED.

Hmmm I dunno about you guys, but I prefer to "feel" the VTEC....hear it by sound....au natural methinks is better...

The HomoMama already has a silly big red light to tell him when his VTEC open, but that's just cos he's abit blind....
