DIY Day Part 6: Postponed to May
Bro, HKS ATF can get from GarageR. However you'll need to bring your own container cos they don't sell it in ready-packed quantities less than 20 litre drums. Expect to pay $50++ per litre.Phuturist wrote:1. Wilson - Heatshield and CAI for intake
2. Jye - TYC Projector Headlamps install
3. Phuturist - ATF cooler (still dunno where to get the extra stuff i need from, i.e. tubes, neckties, HKS transmission fluid)
4.
If you're gonna change to HKS ATF, you should not totally drain out your old ATF and replace with the new one. I'm not sure for ES you'll need how many litres (Darren Jye any idea?) but don't just "top up" with HKS ATF.....like most fluids, don't mix!

for jye's CVT took about 3.4L.. i think most honda conventional autos take about 4L.. for the HKS that's going to be $200 in fluids alone.. if you want a slightly cheaper alternative, you can try the Torco fully synth that me & zippy (still?) are using.. it's about $30 a litreDIRT22 wrote:Bro, HKS ATF can get from GarageR. Yup, still running on torco. its $29/l. If anybro gonna do a flush (pls do so every 40K) then remember to by your own cheap cheap ATF for the flushing. The machine uses 15l of ATF to flush, i threw away $150 worth of monies into the drain. Get the honda ATF at $6.50/l, that will save you $52.50! Use that for another tank of petrol to enjoy, dun waste money!joon wrote:for jye's CVT took about 3.4L.. i think most honda conventional autos take about 4L.. for the HKS that's going to be $200 in fluids alone.. if you want a slightly cheaper alternative, you can try the Torco fully synth that me & zippy (still?) are using.. it's about $30 a litre
Oh, torco shifts pretty well cmpared to my previous honda, Redline, Oil Extreme, and OWS ATF. Whatever you pour into the GB, just remember that heat kills our AT, so pls change oil regularly.

Joon or zippyalex, can use cable tie to secure the heatshield together instead of glue?

Just a matter of site organisation:
We have 2 x better lit locations ("your" lots Pete!), ideally these would be for cars doing ATF cooler install or brake caliper painting. Since the brake caliper painting would take up the whole day, we should confirm in advance who's doing that. If not, the ATF installations would take priority for these 2 lots.
Assuming there aren't too many "stray cars" around (gotta make sure there isn't an event or something going on), the series of vertical lots opposite the 2 "worklots" can hold 2 x cars each, giving everyone enough space to work around the car (be it for heatshield install, polishing, or other light/minor works. That means we can hold an additional 6 x cars there. For cars that wish to have a photo essay done on their mods/parts, the 2 x partial covered lots at the edge of our "workspace" can be used (I assume there will be more natural light there). Priority for these lots will be given to cars that are there for work done, yup?
Bros who are just dropping by to say hi and chill out, bring your own field chairs cos it's a damn carpark there aren't any furnishings! Ha ha but there's a vending machine available so no worries on the drinks, Adam Rd food centre is just a short walk away too.... For those who smoke, please throw your butts in a centralised location (to be advised on site) to facilitate ease of cleaning up..... If not Eugenia will come over and manhandle your butts....
I think Pete is with me on this, no engine oil change DIY please!! It's way too messy and we'll still have to pay a workshop with the proper facilities to dump the used oil. And those bros turning up to have work done on their cars, do be prepared to get dirty and grimy, cos I don't think Pete means to be the one doing all the work while we watch hur hur hur....like Pete mentioned before leave your expensive clothes at home, wear something you don't mind getting dirty in......
PS: Pete I think I'll down bumper and try to clean out my front this time round....maybe align some of the fins on the damn oil cooler and get rid of the stuck stones.....anything other than spray on engine degreaser I can use? Degreaser is a pain to work with on the car body cos I wanna polish up the car too.....
