i have witness A3 Cams tear Audi R8 for the 1-3rd gear..

well, to Ts..whichever cams you choose, at the end of the day, as long you having drivability, car dun stall easily, power on tap, then i guess, guess this is the best options for our cars..cheers

Hmm....duration of VTEC is not controlled by the cam leh. A2, A3, C....F,
the VTEC on-range is controlled by the ECU. Unless u talking just about the duration of valve opening?? and duration of intake/exhaust valve overlap??

A2 may be slightly more cam opening duration, but A3 has higher valve lift.
but both have slightly different effect, but can be moderated by valve overlap, which is controlled by adjustment of cam gears.

Toda A2 is more street because of the lower lift... Duration wise, it's not much longer than A3. Just 2 deg longer... Doesn't mean much...

You want your engine to be able to suck in sufficient air during the intake stroke esp at higher rpm.. There is lots of technical stuff behind the valve overlap, duration, etc... But A3 is proven to make more power, just that it comes later... Same with most, if not all stage 2 cams vs stage 3 cams out in the market...

Yup, Vtec engagement is usually chosen at a point where it will generally make most power for the entire rpm range. There's a writeup on hondata website on the basis of choosing vtc point, which explains how to choose the "best" vtec point. This point is usually very subtle, and you can't feel much from your butt dyno, but it WILL give u the best time / power. Nothing to do with the cams directly...

However, with the cams able to make power @ a wider range of rpm, it will then affect the choice of vtec point to certain extend.

My frank feeling....
I tried A2 b4, only day 1 feel a bit more power when change gear at later rpm, day 2 onwards feeling same as stock cams.

A3 will be more diff when Vtec open, feel more power.

Value for $, A3 better. A2 like have or dont have like that.
i regretted changing A2, waste $ on labour, not much feeling,
go straight to A3 and a hondata will be great!

Hi guys, I got a query here...

So if comparing a 5.1 FD vs A2 cams, which would make more sense to change?

I understand having a higher fd will cause rpm to shoot up faster, so you reach vtec zone faster. Whereas the A2 cams, it lowers the vtec point to 4.5K rpm.

So fd is abt pick-up, cams is about power?
Can I say that changing cams will not cause fc to drop cos it is an AND logic whereas fd regardless of gas pedal position, ur rpm is still higher than stock, thus the slight drop in fc.

Correct me if I'm wrong...

TS, apologize if I OT.

Thanks... :)

Bro. U never tune after installing a2 right? It's very subtle one. Even after tune, prolly just 15-20 horse.

A3 w/o tuning will feel more by butt dyno cos of the weaker low end and stronger high end. Thus more kick.

Both cams tuned, a2 will win from say 2-4k which is daily drive. A3 will win at higher rpm.

There's a bro with k26 and vtec killer cams. His redline is 11k+. This is because he only make power at higher rpm. But can stock internals take it? U will need forged internals Liao.
