Hondata KPro improved idle quality for CL7

Post by karlmax » Fri Aug 16, 2013 10:07 pm

dear guys

this information is for all those running my hondata dual ECU setup in their CL7s

of late, i have been getting customers who are returning and complaining of poorer idle quality. some are customers whose cars i have tuned 5-6 years ago (and was running perfect for a long while)

initially, we were trying to isolate the faults and the common suspects are usually; the idle valve, TPS, etc etc. but i have come to realize that, in the initial stages, when all these cars were nice and new. all the ancillaries like A/C compressor, alternator, idle valves, TPS, etc etc were all working hand in hand like a well oiled machine. there were hardly any problems with the tune and idle quality on these cars (and of course many happy customers)

it was only recently when these cars are getting a little older and tired, we are getting these old age symptoms. especially evident would be when the idle rpm drops to a extra low level and raises back up to the regular idle rpm. thus making the slight shudder a little more pronounced, it is further exacerbated if you have old and worn out engine mounts.

even though i had these hondata dual ECU solutions made and sold since 2004, but i have always made revisions and improved on them. with the latest spate of issues, i have further revised the setup to work better with the ailing idle valves (and other accessories).

for customers with my setup, please get in touch with me if you wish to upgrade to the latest revision. this upgrade entails both a hardware and software change and will require about 30 mins of work. a retune is NOT necessary. charges are $30 and appointments are strictly required.

please EMAIL me at [email protected] and i can explain it in more details. please DO NOT PM me in this forum.

Hi Joel, I didn't know there was a problem. Mine seems ok. Maybe will drive down your shop these days to let you have a look. Han Wei.

Hi Joel,

Can't thank you enough for the A/c idling.
Car is running perfectly smooth now.

For bros who have not done it, I strong recommend you to find Joel ASAP.

After feeding a/c signal to hondata, the idling is so much smoother.
What you will expect is each time after you clutch in, the rpm will not drop too far off from the idling point when a/c is on.

For example,

Before the mod, clutch in, rpm will dive to about 700 or below causing unnecessary vibration (which I am pretty anal about it) then back to the original idling range. For my car, idling is set at 900.
I am sure most bros will experience that.

After the mod, clutch in, idling drop to around 800 every time then back to my preset idling at 900. No engine vibration is felt.

I own the cl7 for 6 years and this is the simplest yet most happy mod till date.
And mine is the K100.

Strongly recommend this to all bros. Go look for Joel now.

Thanks again Joel.

Chris
