Do you smoke in the car? Maybe should open the vent to outside?

same problem

Post by fulsik » Fri Oct 09, 2009 7:04 pm

i have the same problem of bad odour from my ventilation system. my car sat idle in shelter for 2 months and while the air was slightly stale before sometimes, it had worsened to smell like a cocktail of puke, cat poop and a smelly c*nt. on a scale of 1 to 10, the intolerance was 20.

we tried to leave the ventilation system running for an hour with the car left idle but it probably faded some 10% only. for the past few days, i have been driving with the fan on full blast, taking in fresh air from outside most of the time and occasionally toggling to recirculated air while standing at the lights. windows also wound down whenever possible if the afternoon heat was bearable. while this was probably highly energy inefficient, i would gladly say that the adverse condition has improved from a stench to a mild odour.

however, i believe this has only served to alleviate the symptoms but not killed the source and the problem will return if the car sits idle for weeks again. there's either some mould thriving or some decomposing matter in the system. i'm looking for an aircon place that can do a clean up of the ventilation system. if anyone has contacts for such a service, pls drop me a pm. thanks!

For your case it could be the blower and coil is dirty, that why the stale air is there.

(Copy from EK thread)

Yesterday went to this air-con specialist beside TIAN YI Massage parlour at Taman Pelangi at JB to buy my aircon filter for my EK.

I also enquired abt how to kill the bacteria at the air-con duct whereas he told me he used to provide this service using chemical stream position at the entrance of the re-circulate vent at passenger seat.

As i believe air quality is very impt as I got lung infection before. Normal servicing and cleaning on the blower, condenser and wash cooiling coil is actually not good enough to protect your health. Infact most driver did not see the harazd of this air duct posed.

BTW due to the poor demand of this stream wash as the price of stream and normal coil servicing differences, the boss had returned the equipment. However due to my interest, he told me he intend to bring back this equipment for business.

keep you in touch.

Aircon

Post by getzdex » Tue Nov 17, 2009 8:56 pm

The smell will become worst if u open the vent and let air inside the car. U can sealed it up, anyway why do u need the outside to come inside??? Is advice to slide down all windows and come down from MSCP or outside (Not Xpressway or crowded road or Industrial Area) and this will allow the fresh air to come in and stale air to go out.

Then buy those aircon cleaner & antibacteria (Form type) to spray inside the air vent as well. Do it 6 monthly... sure will have no smell.
