Urgent: Advise On Sta Car Inspection Report Required.

Post by bhong » Tue Jan 19, 2010 8:26 pm

Hi all,

I am getting a pre-owned 2nd hand car (Aug 06) Honda Civic 1.6A from a car dealer. The car has a low mileage of 20,000km.

Fortunately, it received an overall grading of B from STA Inspection.

Breakdown of the result includes:

-- Chasis Frame Measurement - PASS
-- General Engine Condition - A
-- Bodywork/Foor Board - B
-- Paint Work - A
-- Mechanical and Electrical System - A
-- Under Carriage - B
-- Oil Leakage - A
-- Road Test
-- Steering System - A
-- Brake System - B
-- Transmission - A
-- Clutch System - NA
-- Suspension System - A
-- Drive Shaft/Final Drive - A
-- Wheel Bearing/Tire Noise - B
-- Rigidity of Bodywork/Instrument Panel -A
-- Exhaust Noise -A

Overall Remark:
1. Vehicle Rear Panel Sign of Touch-up
2. Vehicle Front Bumper Sign of Touch-up

My Doubts:
1. Given such low usage of car (20,000km), does the 'B' grades and remarks entails accidents has/have been involved.
2. If so, should i proceed to get the car?

I am a first time car owner and i hope any bro and sis can give your opinions/comments.

Thanks!

you don't grade a car via the certificate
as a layman you cannot translate the paper to the real thing

low mileage mean two things
it rest too much so certain items not used as frequent as it should
how was it used during the last 20k matters as freq start stop wears more than high mileage

recommend you check with the car servicing records with KM
test drive the car most important as report can't compare with human touch

as for the front/rear signs of touch up could means:-
removed spoiler or accident (minor or major only upon inspection as certain damage not viable to untrained eye)

bodywork and undercarriage B could mean rusting

btw don't take my comments too serious as it only upon inspection determine the road worthy

I just bought my 2nd hand car and went through STA inspection and got 'A'.
But after my mechanic checked the car, found that the suspension needs to change. So I wonder how accurate the report is...

Better to bring along a friend and test drive the car.

Avoid buying.... "A"grade from STA then can "consider to buy", cos to me their "A" grade is the "just pass" grade.....if a car cannot be graded "A", then it must be really "not so good".

Well that's just my opinion & experience from getting my last 3 second-hand cars.
