They say that for almost the same price, might as well get a Japan made Altis.

I know its too late (since I already book), but just wondering what it is that made you all choose City over other cars. Just curious. And hopefully make me feel better about it as well.
I bought the first batch of jazz 09 last year and then subsequently bought the first batch of city 09 last yr.

These are the reasons on why i bought the so called 'not value for money' cars my frens commented.

Better engines. Better gearboxes. In short, better technology than toyota.

5 speed gearbox vs 4 speed

120bhp for 1.5 litre compared to 109bhp for 1.6litre altis.

paddle shifters vs conventional auto shifts.

sportier meters and better interior.

i guess these are enuff , not to mention the better exterior outlook as well.

For me, i think the city is a better buy as i bot the 1.3l jazz for the FC.

Somehow, the city not only outperforms my jazz in performance but also in FC as well.

The made in thai and made in Jap thing to me is just bullshit cos i dun see and feel much diff in quality and solidity of the materials used in the Jazz and City. And lastly, the Jazz costs as much as the city.

I haf test driven the toyotas prior to the city's purchase and i can say that the city definitely felt much better.

With the above, all i can say is you have juast made a value added purchase and enjoy the car.

welcome to honda and the City club. :D

i think an older model e-class was made in S Africa. some VW group veh also made in eastern europe. vios, altis, camry made in thailand. all these production done overseas or nearer to the market so costs can be lower. of course the car manufacturers not going to kill themselves by sacrificing quality. as long as u maintain ur car properly, it shld not cause many major problems.

LOL i also kena suan before. So i make a meal deal with my friends a few months back, no string attached. Tuas, 9pm, Altis 1.6, City 1.5 and EX lanzer 1.6, 3 friends. We try each others car and ramp. Finally we test back to back on our pick up. Guess wat, EX and City almost head to head, Altis aaaaaaaaa, nvm. After the meeting, both of my friends were suprise on the performace of my 1.5 only City. the only thing they commented is steering very light, high speed quite dangerous. Beside that, power good, pickup best, and overall pass, OUTSTANDING.

EPS is like that lah... City is lighter, power to weight ratio win liao...

EX shall be 1.5.... i drove my neighbour EX 2.0, not ytorquey'.. the same/similar amt of pressure on the throttle, but City is more responsive...

but high speed on EX = siok!!

City has high CG, u need to lower (goes with a good coilover), 'stiffen' the chassis with some bar, low profile tire... this will definitely help.

I also got the same response from some of my friends.
Just like you, I got questioned why not get a Altis.
I would reply with my 5 excuses:

1) City's Auto Transmission has 5 Forward gear, the other one only 4
2) I was approached by a sales person when I step into the showroom,
while the other showroom, I have to request for a sales person
3) I get Paddle Shifts
4) Honda has done a good job for the City facelift
5) I am paying for it with my money.

LOL...
Cheers

Facts are...
- Altis never change.... they still on old engine technology. Even the face lift still on old engine. Sucks.
- Altis has smoother ride as tire is higher profile, less noise [these u can match up without paying very much]
- I would say a city and altis are relatively on par for performance in speed and acceleration. Due to better efficiency and weight... city rules, altis win on paper only. So the winner all depends on the courage of the driver.
- Fuel wise and yearly bill... City wins clear cut. But the returns depend how longs u hold on to your city
- servicing, both are equally quite X for a salaryman
- Think about spicing up your car, TRO are no match to Honda Mugen and others
- Most others areas are just the problem in the heart and mind.
