30+++ Error - Engine Check Light

Post by nickki » Tue Jan 08, 2013 5:13 pm

Hi all,

Initially thought my TPS is faulty because am experiencing vehicle surging forward with irregular RPM. Eventually changed the TPS and the surging forward motion has stopped BUT CEL REMAINED!

am having a very strange occurence with over 30++ Fault/Error (SIBEHHHHHH SHOCKED) from the CEL of my B series engine only VFAC tuned.

Have the mechanic checked my Engine bay and all wire harnesses, it appears that everything is in order.

The only problem observed after opening up the P28 ECU, saw a few capacitor fried (Brown stain like rusted).

So mechanic started to use all sorts of honda ECU to do trial and error to see whether the CEL dies off. Unfortunately they doesn't have the P30 (Manual), so they tried the P30 (Auto) instead.
The engine started smoothly after ignition for 20 second without CEL only.

Anyone could enlighten whether it may be due to the ECU fried capacitor?

Should i go ahead and get another ECU?

So sad.... haizzzz :(

well, if it's only an ecu problem, just replace the capacitors! if you can do electronics, check out http://vtec92.wordpress.com/2009/12/25/ ... or-in-ecu/

otherwise, we do have quite a few here who can fix it for you. they'll check the connections and replace the caps for you. can try shamie or joel. their numbers shd be here on the forum somewhere. use the search function. :)

alternatively, if you want cheap and fast, go to sim lim tower. a lot of radio/tv repair shops on the 2nd and 3rd floor. they shd be able to fix for you as well on the spot.

OR, you can always buy a used one from JB for abt 400-500 rm. but those may have problematic caps anyway...

if you look on ebay, you shd be able to find quite a few that already have their caps replaced. but note that those are for USDM, not JDM cars like ours. so if you already have a chip like hondata, then you need to modify. very lehchey...

ok, those are pretty much your choices, i think.

Hi all...

Hope this scares'' you so that you will take preventive action before it happens to your ECU.
If you drive a civic EG or EK most possible you have a ECU in your car with the code P27, 28, P08, or P30.

I have repaired about 10 honda civic ecu with this type of problem..
This write up is on a ecu P30 which I had to repair for a friend's workshop customer's car... last saturday nite...

Lucky it was detected before any major mishap occured... A capacitor (C27) in the ecu leaked and cause a short burning a hole in the ecu..

Pls see attached picture for clearer info and take action on yours.... TQ and do thank me too.

Thanks all.

Problem resolved. ECU haywired and its not due to capacitor, it might be other chips...

Engine safe and sound after trying another piece of ECU from JOEL.
