Need advice how to reduce the heat from the transmission?

Post by BMWCAR » Wed Nov 12, 2014 5:56 pm

Hello S2K Owner,

My S2K felt very warm after a long drive and especially during traffic jam.
The heat came from underneath the driver carpet and beside the transmission gearbox.

May I know how to reduce the heat?
I know car aircon will help but I prefer to drive without aircon.

Anyone has thermal wrappd the stock header and installed heatshield underneath the exhaust? or remove Cat and replaced with Test Pipe can reduce heat?

Thanks for your help in advance.
Cheers.

In my old car, I had a thermal wrapped aftermarket header. It doesn't seem to help. Heat quite hard to avoid, with the positioning of the transmission tunnel.

Never heard of headshield under exhaust. Sounds like a creative solution. I would live with it, since its still a bearable amount of heat. My previous e92 m3 had no such issues. May be due to the positioning of the transmission tunnel. And heat is definitely not obvious on the M3. Then again, it was a different car and build.

Hello vesfreq

Thanks for your reply :)

May I know anyone has installed a gearbox oil cooler in your S2K?
I heard this may help a bit to reduce the heat.

All I can say is S2K is really a "HOT" car.
By the look of it as well as the drive

Thanks.
