Fan belt tensioner bearing
Fan belt tensioner bearing
Anybody changed theirs, estimate cost?...just did 170K servicing on my RB1 and mechanic say the "tick tick tick" sound whenever I on my aircon was from this belt tensioner bearing.
Hi R77,
I may have this same problem which is still bugging me after going thru two auto belt tensioners. My ride is 2004 2.0L Honda Stream and here's my story. When I switched on my air-con and during idling only, there is this juddering knocking sound. I look and found juddering of belt tensioner. This occurs only when car is at stand-still and idling. When air-con is off, no knocking sound.
The tensioner was replaced by Kah Motors during warranty but the sound was there but mild. 5 years later which is last year, the sound became louder and my outside mechanic said that tensioner damaged. I changed a brand new one together with new air-con belt. Now I still facing the same problem. So I suspect it is not a tensioner problem and it something else.
My mechanic is also scratching his head and suggest to try a shorter air-con belt in order to pull the pulley away from the end stop and avoid the edge from hitting the the end stopper (two metals parts knocking onto each other causing the knocking sound). When car moves out at higher rpm, the sound doesn't happen. I putting the shorter air-con belt change on hold as not sure if it will help.
Have you found the solution?

Tensioner
Hi,
I had some similar sound and did a few things during a recent servicing (110k):
- Checked the tensioner and seems quite ok as it was replaced at my 80k servicing
- Took out the belt and replaced as there are some worn lines on the belt. compared the new belt and existing belt, there are some slight differences in length. Only then I was told my previous belt is not an original part (I recall I did changed the tensioner and belt at my 80k servicing so guess I was given a non-original part that expanded beyond the usual limits that may cause the tensioner to move more than the usual travel distance
- One of the engine mounts looks worn and was also replaced (I was guessing this may have some effects as well when the engine moves under rev)
Sound seems to be gone since the above.

Fan Belt Tensioner Cause Rattling Sound When Idling
Hi,
1. I got this rattling sound only when idling.
2. Slightly more pronounced when aircon kicks in.
3. When I lift up the bonnet, i can see the belt tensioner vibrating / bouncing up and down.
4. I can see also see where the sound is coming from. Metal contact from the tensioner moving up and down.
5. Can someone advise how to get this resolved!!
6. Do i buy the whole tensioner or just the bearing or springs?

Tensioner
Hi bro,
You can get your mechanic yo check your belt as well and if yhe belt is ok, then changing the tensioner is the way to go. The tensioner comes in whole set so got to change whole thing.
Think its 150 or 180 at kah motors if not wrong.[/i]
