Alternator Died

Post by dazr4el » Sat Jun 23, 2012 1:45 pm

Had been read this thread before, now it's my turn... Some scenarios on what happened to share with u guys

Just did my servicing yesterday afternoon, but the night when i reached home, found my battery check light ON and the car is breathing hard & stalled like bloody hell, water temp, oil temp went to 100+ degrees while the car idling. The radiator fan stopped working. RSM voltage jumping. Suspected the issue caused by alternator.

Lucky this morning i can still start my car & i immediately drive to workshop, found that the battery was not charging when engine started. You guess what? Yes, it's the damn alternator died but there's no any sign before it died, what the hell...lucky the workshop do have the original Denso unit. After changed the alternator, everything back to normal.

Changed alternator and battery

Post by fokph » Sat Jul 07, 2012 11:02 am

Hi bros out there,

Need your advice...

Just changed alternator and battery (both new) for about 3 weeks. Voltmeter is jumping a few times every day to as low as 10V while moving although most time is at 12.5V to 13V. Did not On my ICE, did not have additional lights, just on radio only still like that...

Recall that when just changed, the voltage max at 12.5V for 2 weeks before hitting 13V last week. There were a few times when engine start sound was weaker than the usual "eager start" sound. Is there a run-in time needed to stable battery? Is it normal?

Thanks!

recently after changing to a recon alternator and new battery, my voltage jumps around from 11.2 to 13.9 randomly regardless of whether aircon headlights or radio are on, is it normal? my friend's integra is always at 14v constantly.. TIA

sorry to have brought up this old thread but just to check with you guys for those who have replaced their alternator, does the installer show you the voltage after installed? is it 14V or 14.4V? Was advised to have my alternator replaced as it's only charging at 14.1V instead of a full charge 14.4V.

Thanks.

Alternator

Post by shanks83 » Tue Oct 09, 2012 2:20 pm

Just to share. I changed my alternator 1 month ago as it suddenly failed. My mechanic changed Honda CRV's alternator as he claim it is better and lasting compare to our original one. Our original one failed and spoilt easy especially if we charge our phone on the ciggie lighter port. Which coincidently i was testing a new car charger bought few days back before it break down. Hope it helps. The alternator i changed is a brand new CRV which cost me only $550 plus labour.
