Yellow Delsol

Post by KG61 » Mon Aug 12, 2013 12:51 am

Just in case anyone is looking at e Yellow delsol on sale right now. I was the last owner. Here's some info you may find useful if you or someone you know, is buying it:
- minor accident (front) recently. No major damage
- Tire has harden and must be change [abt $120 each]
- Suspension (shock absorber) must be change [abt $400-600 a set of normal absorbers]
- CV joint or shaft worn out (another $200-300)
- engine check light, battery light (sometimes) on. Need to diagnose
- clutch pump needs to be serviced (using stock clutch)
- Engine mounting due to change ($300-500)
- alternator and starter also about there. ($300-500)
- Last servicing (don't save on this if you want the car to serve you till scrap)
~ engine (last service in Apr 13) and
~ gear box oil (last service in May 12)
- Minor issues include faulty alarm ($100-150), no ABS.
- 5yrs non-renewable COE (renewed in Apr 2012, left 3yrs 8+mths) at $5,300/yr
- Check all the belts. Last change in Oct 2008 ($600-$800)

Additional good to know info, the car is in a good shape.
- Engine top overhaul 15 Dec 2010
- Aircon in good shape, coil was upsized in Nov 2011 thus it's cooling even under hot noon sun
- Radiator changed on Sep 2012 (using good radiator coolant, not the cheap $5/bot type)
- Bosch battery changed on May 2013
- both radiator hose changed in recent years (top in Apr 12, bottom in 2011)
- Leather seats, door panel and pillar were re-wrap using European leather.
- Windscreens changed (front changed years ago, and rear in Aug 2010)

Good luck. If it's good, it's because I took care of the car (park in corner lot, etc, regular washing, no high rev all e time, service when due, etc. If there are faults, hey, it's a 20 years old car. A lot of parts were replaced when wear and tear sets in. But I can't assure you won't face problems when you take over.

Btw, the mileage is about 370,000km.

I took over this car in May 2006, with about 212,302km on the clock.

Hello.

I think I bought your yellow Delsol (SCK**8*A).
Changed the colour to Bayside Blue though.

Thanks for this list you provided. Most of the stuff has been sorted out by the dealer.
However, have been noticing that there has been some minor leaks from the roof during heavy rain. Have any ideas how to stop this?

Thanks in advance!

If you have gotten it at a good price, good for u. He took in at SCRAP minus 1% (abt $19.5k), claiming they will scrap my car for me. Hmmmm so.... i don't know what to say about their honesty.

But if they had replaced and repair all the things I listed, ok, maybe it's ok to buy at their asking price. But the things I listed will only set one back by about $3k max.

With only about 3yrs 9mths left, is it worth changing color (cost another sum)? The COE is non-renewable you know.

Ok, coming to your question. The rubber seals are all worn out, and it will cost i think at least $800 to replace. You can check with Kah motors. One of the bros checked before years ago.

If you search the sub-forum, the rear windscreen had been replaced (front too). And there was a period the drainage (left/right) was choked, and I had dismantled the whole board and mounting, removed the whole windscreen and cleaned the drainage. So I don't think it will choke again.

Apart from that, I had taken good car of the engine and the whole exhaust was replaced to stock (very hard to get... so if you mod, keep the original, in case you need to restore). I had been stopped once by LTA to check on the exhaust, so be careful. Such cars attracts attention.
