Wow this power steering thing is such a common issue.

I am living with the problem for the past two years. Aeroplane sound is only for the initial 15 minutes of driving after car is parked for more than 4-5 hours.

Occassionally, I even completely loose power steering for a few seconds.

Bro, Does this kit repair the leak? Or just to resolve the irritating sound? I am encountering this problem too.
Thanks.

I just rectified my Power Steering grinding noise today. This is not to be mistaken with high pitch (jet engine / airplane sound) which is rectified by changing the power steering reservoir (bottled container).

Cost Paid as Follows
P/S kit ( 06539-RAA-A01 ) = $40
P/S pump bearing ( NTN 6203 ) = $6
Honda Power Steering Fluid 1 litre = $10
Total for Parts bought in Thian Seng (Waterloo Street) inclusive of 7% GST = S$60

Labour to repair $80 (nett). One of the guys mentioned here that he got it done at S$50 (labour) but have MIA. I did it at #05-19 Ang Mo Kio Autopoint

Grand Total Spent including parts and 1 litre of Honda power steering fluid to rectify the problem is S$140 (nett)

I asked Kah Motors directly on the cost to install the repair kit (consisting mainly of O-Rings / washer and 1 Bearing). Kah Motor quoted me between S$100 to S$150 for labour. A supposed Honda Specialist (#05-23) also on the 5th floor AMK AutoPoint wanted S$280 just for labour without parts mentioning that it was a 2-3 men job taking 3-4 hours

From what my mechanic told me, its a very basic and common job. Time taken to repair 1-2 hours. In fact, this issue can be viewed on Youtube (Honda Power Steering Pump repair kit). When he showed me the replaced O-rings, they were all hardened like plastic (it should be soft like rubber). Also changed the bearing that is the size of a 50cent coin and about 1 cm thick.

Problem with my Power Steering
1. I would get a loud grinding sound after parking the car for more than 2 hours (initially it only happened if I parked overnight 6-8 hours).

2. Everything will return back to normal (no more sound) after 5-10 minutes of driving.

3. Sometimes, I would loose power steering for 3-5 seconds, especially if I have parked the car overnight ....... but everything returns back to normal after 5 minutes of driving.

4. I would loose very little, about 100cc of power steering fluid in 6 months, about 1 teaspoon of power steering fluid every 2 weeks.

After living with the issue for over two years, glad the grinding / rubbing / sanding sound is resolved.

I got the steering pump system changed. I am glad that I replaced the power steering fluid container as advised in the earlier post. The filter inside the container was choked with black stuff.

I'm also getting this belt-spinning sound from my Ody engine at idle speed.

When I checked with Kah Motors, I was told that my power steering pump is leaking onto the spinning motor belt .. which is causing the loud spinning sound.

Was advised by Kah Motors to replace the entire power steering pump with parts & labour coming up to $900+ !!!

Any advise or recommendations from bros. here especially those who have encountered this same problem?

Thanks!

After reading this, don't know whether cheated by repair shop.
First I replaced the pump $1000 when steering sound and steering loose power. One month later the sound comes back , change rack and hose $1.5k.... Is this normal?
