Hi,

I just want to continue from where we have left off in "Fuel Consumption of KM 2.4 Accord", though now when I think about it, there's hardly any discussions on the FC, although I'm very much interested in that particular subject. Nonetheless we all had a wonderful discussion, especially with bobkoh, eken4,steptronic, cheers2020, fluid_fish...

By the way, bobkoh, cheers2020, and myself should be getting our ride this month or the next, much to our delight and disappointment. If we had held on for a couple more months we could have saved another 3 to 5k (buy some long term plan for my kids). But there's no turning back. With the government inclined on getting revenue from car usage and not car ownership, the shift is very distinct and incisive. Much to my chagrin, I should have listened to my instinct instead of listening to oily sales talk.

Never mind, another lesson learnt (I seem to be not just learning a lot, but losing a lot as well). Take care and do write in soon.

Hi Siewss.... just thought I'd send you a link if you haven't already seen this... probably not your cup of tea but at least its nice to know that Mugen has decided to create some aftermarket parts for your car.

Hi,

I think Siewss bro booked the KM 2.4L Accord, not the JDM one.

Cheers.

Hi Gary, Jimbo's right. I bought the KM 2.4, not the JDM. It set me back S$100k. Right now it's going for S$97k, a very attractive price indeed if you're hunting for a car.

Cheers!

Hi FF, thanks for the link. They really look good. I mean, I would have dressed up the car this way if I were 10 years younger. Unfortunately, age has crept up on me, and an accord dressed to the hilt would have me look out of place. 5 years ago, I was in Japan for a business trip and one of my business associate drove a souped up & dressed up Subaru Legacy RS Wagon. It looks very much a part like this. Wow, can the car go!

I added up the cost of all the assessories (one set of rims) and cost came to almost S$6k. Very hefty, but hey, it looks gorgeous. Thanks to my age, I can save the S$6k.

hi! welcome back from India! How was the trip? :)
Yeah, the first thing i did, after the budget was announced, was to check the price of the Accord. Lo and behold, the price indeed dropped! My dad got interested for awhile, then finally expressed his disinterest in changing to a new car again. haha!
Personally, i didn't think this reduction in ownership tax was a sure-to-happen thing. I would have thought that they have no reasons to let the car industry continue in its low prices state. But well, the shift in tax emphasis only serves to add to my burden in future, as i'm a heavy user. But well, guess that's what it's all about... tax equity....

Thanks. I had diarrhoea for the 1st 2 days and another round on the 5th day - thanks to the water that our business partners filled into the mineral water bottle. 2 bottles later, I had stomach cramps and vomitting bouts, plus toufu legs. Potent, I tell you. If anything, best way to attack an army is to contaminate their water source. I visited Taj Mahal and the temples and forts within Delhi. Quite majestic, but not quite my idea of a holiday spot. Thankfully the weather was good, 25 deg C average. May will see the temperature touching 48 deg C.

Two of my friends immediately bought cars after the announcement. One got a Matrix for S$59k (Compulsory loan of S$62k. Ridiculous, isn't it), and another got a Picnic for S$96k (Deluxe version). Timing, I tell you, is everything in the car business. The government has made car purchase a great big guessing game, adding stress and frustration to those who bought at a high.

So I missed the PARF reduction and the baby bonus. I'm not sure what else is in the pipeline, and I only have my lack of foresight to blame. The only consolation I have is that I did not purchase when the price is at the peak.

If your dad has the intention to buy, perhaps he should wait till the latest COE quota is announced. The price might take another step southwards.

It's 1.5 months till the date of delivery, though I suspect I should be able to get my car even earlier. Looking forward to it!

Sounds like you did not exactly had a good trip, except for the pleasant weather? I'm currently in the midst of planning for my post-graduation holidays, but still not very sure where to go.

It was indeed a difficult guessing game to play. On our national policies, our govt is as tight-lipped as Honda is about their new launches; we wouldn't really know until it is officially announced. So I think you aren't to be blamed at all. If anything, poor luck is the culprit. Like you said, 100k isn't from the present price of 97k anyway.

Most probably, my family shouldn't be seeing a new car for some time to come. My dad seems too contented with his present car now. Anyway, I have started applying for some jobs in the automotive industry. So perhaps if I can hold out a few more years, I may be able to get a new car at staff price? haha! dreaming on.....

Perhaps we can meet up for lunch or something when you get your new car? Let me admire it. haha! Hope it comes sooner!

My India trip's not too bad, actually. It was an eye opener. The way they drive and incessant sounding of horn, the locals are really daytona drivers in disguise. They don't signal, swerve in and out between cars and trucks and buses (not to mention bullock, donkey and camel carts), ride in the center of 2 lanes, tailgate, brake/swerve/turn at the last minute, and the famous flashing of headlights and horning - All these will make our Singaporean drivers very tame by any yardstick. To think that we always complain about our cabbies. I tell you, driving in India will raise our blood pressure many mmHg. For your post-grad holidays, pls avoid India. US may be a good idea, if the exchange rate is around 1.67. Euro and Aussie's
pretty high, so our Sing dollar won't go very far.

Oh, I wouldn't blame it on luck. I should have seen it coming because I had this nagging feeling prices may drop further. I didn't bother attributing my feelings to any potential policy changes, hence my situation. I think I mentioned earlier I set a goal to make my purchase only when the COE goes below S$20k, but I went against my better judgement. Anyway, the price has crept up to S$101.5k with the recent increase in COE, but I'm not sure if the price will continue to sustain at that level.

Are you also trying out jobs in your area of specialisation? Joining the car industries' good, but exposure to different industries will put you in better stead for the future. Make sure you you join the dealership that sells the brand you like. Perhaps you can extend your staff rate to me as well, haha!

Sure, lunch sounds like a good idea. Will let you know when the car arrives. I was persuaded to go for the frontlip for an additional S$600. My SE says it's a bargain. I'm still half decided because S$600 is no small bean for plastics. I think I'll be much better off with v-kool or huperoptik for that money.

Hi Siewss

Welcome back to SIngapore. Wow... u really hv a tough time there. ANyway, you did manage 2 see the taj mahal, forts etc.. and the temp was 25, really good weather. i last time i went the temp was 45!

my good old rover was scraped 2 weeks back. driving a old corona manual (14 yrs old), not too bad.. quite good actually. was acutally driving one night with my parents after dinner, and one sleek black KM accord zoom past by... sigh... the long wait is better worth it...

anyway, just to let all brudders know that i was in KL last week, and one of my golf kakis bought a KM Honda accord (Black somemore); the interesting thing is that it has 2.0 version, and was told that it is a DOHC iVTEC as well, instead of the sohc version. Not sure if this is true.

all of us know that KM malaysia is now taken over by HOnda it self.

I hv another friend who works in KL and stay in SG; he drives a CRV SOHC VTEC in KL, (0ld model), but in SG he also owns a CRV (fairly new) but a SOHC iVTEC. His experience is that the 'i' - intellgience acutally reduce the sensitivity of the engine, especially pickup. His KL one is more responsive. Just one feedback from my friend.

Anyway, it is good to be in a new forum home. and we should all meet when we collect our BLACK honda accord.

I hope we can attract more KM accord owners here...

Hi Bob, glad to see you join this new forum. I have been requested to go to India in May again. That's when the temperature maxes out at 48 deg. I think I will take up my counterpart's proposal and go to South Korea instead. I think the dust and diarrhoea is still lingering strongly in my mind.

Your long wait is almost over. In 1 to 2 weeks time, you will have a chance to zoom past old coronas. I think you will find the long wait very worthwhile, for it sure has built up your anticipation. I can imagine myself in your shoes. However, I will still have more than a month to go.

How did your golf kaki find the 2.0 accord? Did he think it's underpower? I would think that using a stream engine should be ok for the accord. Oh yeah, the stream is using a DOHC i-vtec engine. Actually I would have thought KM will be interested in bringing in the 2.0 accord, considering the 2.0 camry is doing so well. Oh well, I think the marketing department's sleeping.

Your friend may be right about the SOHC engine being more responsive - why else would Honda continue to use the SOHC vtec for the 3.0? It generates far more hp per liter than the i-vtec could muster. But again, the i-vtec has the mission of making the engine clean burning and environmental loving etc, etc.

Oh yeah, I got a friend who's driving the new Mazda 3 and the beige floor mat gets dirty too easily. He's thinking of getting a 3rd party mat (probably 3M because he doesn't want to spend time daily brushing out the dirt and the marks). I'll be requesting from my SE if I can get the beige mat changed to black. What do you think?

By the way, my SE also offered me S$600 for the frontlip (usual: S$786). I'm hesitant about spending this kind of dollar, but are you keen? I asked for a group discount, but it's no go. She mentioned S$600 is already a very good price and KM is making no profit from it.

Let us know when you get your keys. We're all interested in knowing your maiden drive experience.

Hi siewss

Actually india is really a nice place... but in May, u r right, the weather can kill and cook our bodies...

S korea? i will be there on the 3rd week of March, hopefully it will not crash with my taking of the new car... i will be at the cheju islands for some meetings....

i m not sure if my car can arrive in 1 to 2 weeks' time, my SE says it is earliest end march or mid early april... but u r right, the build up of the anticiaption is really good... it a loooooooooong wait since January...

My fren is getting his 2.0 KM accord only this month, will check with him when i go to KL at the end of the month... i heard the price of the 2 litre is RM138, 000 and the 2.4l version is RM159, 000.

I m not sure whether KM will allow us to change the beige mat to black. black is certainly more practical, but beige blends well with our accord interior, if not, then i will probably buy the black one in BKK next month, but only after I get my accord first. it is certainly cheaper there. Let me noe whether you can get yours change to black.. but i m not sure if the color blends with our interior.

After all the discussion on the frontlip, i finally decided not to change, as i think the original front looks good enough.. for the SGD600, i will be using it to drive to KL this June for holidays with my family...

I hv seen the new Mazda 3... quite chio...but is it a fast car? compare to our Accord? how abt the Mazda 6 2.3? is it fast as well?

BTW, what do you think of the new Cefiro 2.3? is this kind of car something you will consider? I seen motoring magazine's review between this and our accord and they seem to put Cefiro in a better position overall...

If i don get my keys before 21 March, then i can only get it after 6 april, as i will be travelling again...

looking forward (since january) for my maiden trip of accord!!!!

Hi bob, siewss,

I have found some replacement for the wooden center console in some website. Unfortunately, KM does not have these cos personnally I felt that the wooden center console of our accord cannot pass.

These looks really good. I saw the ones in the KM brochure and it makes all the difference. I did check with my SE about this but it's unavailable, unfortunately. But fortunately though, the interior is already quite a looker.

Like Bob always say, let's take a look in Bangkok. We may be able to get some good buys. I may have a chance to go there on a business trip this year.

I still pondering if I should get the black mat. The mat set, if I decide to change later, will cost me S$200.00. Stamford Tyres also sell mats, for roughly half that price, but the fit may not be perfect.
